Old Smokie Sweater

by Wayne Krewski

Seth Martin and Dave Rusnell are hockey legends, but they're also two of the finest people I've ever had the privilege of playing with, and whether flying over the Rockies in a burning plane or on the tour bus, songs were always part of their experience.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This concert was recorded on the 11th of February 2006 at the Miners Hall in Rossland, BC. Alfie Albo and Seth and I had planned the concert but Alfie went into the hospital just before. Sadly, he passed away twenty days later. The 1961 Trail Smoke Eaters were one of the world's premier amateur hockey teams at the end of the "for the love of the game" era. They were so dominant that the only way for the local league to continue was to disband the team and send some players to Rossland and some to Nelson. In their last game as the 1961 Smoke Eaters they beat Rossland 21 to 1.

Joining Seth, Dave and I, and seated as follows from the audience perspective, which is how you'll hear us, were George Ferguson on the far left, Cal Hockley on the medium left, Wayne Krewski just left of centre, Seth Martin just right of centre, Pinoke McIntyre on the medium right, and Dave Rusnell on the far right. Where there's two guitars, Wayne's guitar is medium left and Dave's guitar is medium right. Where there's just one guitar, it's panned dead centre no matter who's playing it.

It was a lot of fun, and there's some great stories about their 1961 World Cup win, outdoor rinks, planes catching on fire, road trips, and more. Seth sings like a songbird and Dave plays a really solid rhythm guitar ... it was such a pleasure to play with them. You can find out more about this project, and others, at www.RidgeRecords.net
