Album Notes
WadiRum was named by the band's leader, Stewart Erlich, after traveling for 6 months in the middle east. Wadi Rum is a region in Jordan where Erlich found himself miraculously healed after suffering a debilitating illness during his travels in the desert.

The music is much like the region: raw, powerful, silent and loud in turns, and ultimately healing.

WadiRum's songs build to crescendo, with lush harmony, dark, warm bass and cello, and drums that move from subtle to explosive. Each song is different, but the message is the same- the revelation of the human heart.

Dorothy Gill

great blend of voices and an interesting medely of lyrics
This CD blends two voices in a most effective way, backed up with rythms and instruments (love the chello) that give it a unique sound. The lyrics are timely and relevant. I can't stop listening to it and find myself singing the songs in my head even when the CD is not playing.

Cecile Langford

Enjoyed the CD immensely. Transferred to my iPod immediately. So pleasing to the ear, good arrangements! Good quality. Great voices and loved the cello!

Alissandra Seelaus

Great blend of indie rock and jazz, with excellent strings!
Wadirum's self-titled release is a great album, each song is original and unique, but blends seamlessly within the album as a whole. Powerful vocals, and I love the strings - they liven up the sound!

A treat for all of your senses
Erlich and Pilon are master songwriters. They tell such intimate, personal stories that resonate with your own experience, evoking emotions perhaps you thought were buried too deep to access again. If you want smart, sensitive lyrical hooks free cliché and obvious rhymes, you won't cringe, not even once.

But what makes the magic happen in Wadirum's first release is Erlich and Pilon's command of melody and chord progression that lends itself so intuitively to lush harmonies, counter-melodies and instrumental arrangements. The influences of other genres are clear, but to classify this recording as "jazz-based folk," "folked-up rock" or simply "progressive" does the music a huge disservice.

It's difficult to find a rival of their combined vocal dexterity, strength and sweetness. The band is stellar and the instrumentation cradles the vocals perfectly.

Erlich's own lyrics (from Dirt) aptly describe my experience upon hearing Wadirum the first time: my whole body paid attention. They're that good. The live show grabs hold of you as tactily, spiritually, emotionally as this CD does.

If you are on the fence, for your own sake, get off and buy this recording.

Harmonius, melodious. Will lift your spirits.
A fine collection of songs. Great vocals and instrumentation. The mellow mood continues throughout. A recording to soothe away the cares of the day. Try it - you won't be disappointed.
