ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Vince Agwada is back with LIGHT OF DAY the long anticipated, exciting, and meticulously crafted follow-up to his 2011 release “Basic Blue”. LIGHT OF DAY features sixteen original songs that span the
gamut across Blues, Rock, Jazz, Funk, and World Music genres while remaining firmly rooted in the Blues music which courses through the veins of this veteran of the Chicago Blues scene.

With this release, Vince Agwada shows continued growth as a producer, offering, alongside more traditional instrumentation, lush strings and horns, angelic choir arrangements, and features elements of ethnic music from Asia, Africa, Northern and Eastern Europe.

As expected, there is a treasure trove of excellent guitar playing throughout this record. Highlights include the blazing slide guitar of the opener, “Two Tons of Fun” which is guaranteed to get them out of their seats, the Freddie King-inspired tone of the funky, clavinet and horn driven, “Hard-Headed Woman”, the tasty solos on the clever rocker “Blues 99”, right on through to the full-frontal assault of the guitar army he assembled for the uptempo tour de force “Quicksand”.

Other highlights include the ballad “Blue Moon Call” which features an epic guitar solo at the end that builds to a climax that will leave listeners breathless. This tune alone is worth the price of admission and, where time permits, should be preceded by “Awakening” as the two were recorded together and are intended as a suite.

With this record, Vince Agwada brought to fruition a career-long dream of working with a live string section. The ballad “Friend” weaves a tale of the loss of a close friend while the Latin-tinged “Angelina” offers a client’s confession of love for a lady of the night. Both tracks feature tight arrangements and blissfully orchestrated interplay between the string section and Agwada’s guitars.

The funky Blues “Credit Card” is an everyman’s tale that speaks to the evils of credit while the title track and closer, LIGHT OF DAY, addresses the subjects of karma and the current political climate in a Hard Rock setting.
