ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Tute Chigamba is one of Zimbabwe's preeminent mbira performers and makers. He has spent the past few decades traveling the world and sharing his music and wisdom with anyone who asks. Yangu Ndega is a new two-disc solo recording that affords listeners the opportunity to hear how Mr. Chigamba combines the lead (kushaura) and follow (kutsinhira) parts in both Gandanga and Nyamaropa tunings in his own distinctive and virtuosic style. Tute Chigamba has been an inspiration to generations of mbira players in Zimbabwe, the United States and throughout the world. In his own words, "Yangu Ndega is for the youngsters. We want to keep the legacy and youngsters should learn to play because this is their legacy. There's education in all these songs. They teach you to do something, and you have to be careful. So let's keep our music. Keep it going and spread it all over the world like Zaranyika."
