When Angels Fly

Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Yeah,
My Baby,
Hey, Hey

Love is born in heavenly places
And put on earth to fill empty spaces
Then given to the Spirit of someone, just like you

The father smiles, a tear falls from his eye
And with that tear an angel flies
A witness to love as it fell to the earth
Sweet gentle soul, I was there for your birth

Short Chorus

God smiles and angels fly
Heaven opens wide
So angels can fly . .

You were a child but for a minute
I tried to cherish each moment as we spent it
I hope that I took enough time on my way
To give you my heart, at the start of each day

I made plans as you would grow up
Had hopes and dreams how things would end up
I pondered my guidance, at times I would doubt
But it’s truly divine the way you have turned out

My seed has blossomed into a flower
This day will become one of your greatest hours
So I open up my hands and my heart with pride
And I gladly present you to him as his bride

2nd Chorus:

God smiled and shed a tear from his eye
Then heaven gave way to let an angel take flight
So fly, angel fly

God smiled on you yeah, yeah,
Fly…, angel fly

(2nd Chorus Cont’d))

God smiles and angels fly,
Heaven opens wide
So angels can fly . . . angel fly

God smiles, God smiles and angels fly
Heaven opens wide, so angels can, spread their wings,
And fly

Heaven opens wide, take your dreams and fly

My seed has blossomed into a flower
This day will become one of your greatest hours
My heart’s overjoyed, I tear with pride
But now it’s time for my angel to fly

3rd Chorus

God Smiles and angels fly,
Heaven opens wide
So angels can fly . . .
God smiles and sheds a tear from his eye
Then heaven gives way to let an angel take flight
So fly, angel fly

God smiles, a tear from the Father
His seed gives him honor, spread your wings and fly

Short Chorus:

God smiles and angels fly
Heaven opened wide
So my angel fly . . .

Through all the times, in the coming years
And whatever lies, within life’s frontier
You know that Daddy’s heart will always be your your home
Fly, Fly…

Musical ending, fade …..

The History of
“When Angels Fly”

“Love is born in Heavenly places
and put on earth to fill empty spaces
Then given to the Spirit of someone, just like you
The father smiles, a tear falls from his eye
and with that tear an Angel flies…”

With that thought, the song “When Angels Fly” began to immerge. Without my knowing, this song had actually been writing itself for the last 26 some-odd years. This is how it all began:

Approximately 3 years ago, my daughter met and fell in love with a wonderful young man. He was her perfect match, and the kind of son-in-law who makes a father proud. I wanted to do something special, giving my daughter the “storybook wedding”, i.e. the Four Seasons Hotel, a tropical daytime setting outside, the tent, the works. I began to realize, this was the easy part.

A father’s love for his daughter is different from any other kind. Only a father having a daughter can possibly understand this. And, like all fathers, I wanted everything to be perfect for the wedding. The perfect toast would be as required as the tuxedo I’d choose. The meaningful lyrics of a father-daughter dance song would have to demonstrate the feelings that were so hard for most fathers to express.

My little girl was kind enough to set the wedding date a year ahead, allowing me plenty of time to find an appropriate song affirming my (overflowing) feelings. When I began, I was amazed. No one song expressed the feelings I longed, no, ached for her to know.

Indeed, there are some nice, time-worn songs (by major artists) that might typically be used for the father daughter dance. But, there were none containing lyrics expressing how I felt, or said it in the way I wanted her to hear it. There was only one thing left to do. Write it myself!

Fortunately, I have some very special long-time friends in the music business, so I made a call. Iona, Clarence, and David were very excited about the wedding and pleased to help out. As they immediately learned, there was only one criterion. “I want to see tears in my daughter’s eyes when the song is over.”

The song became a labor of love between us for next eleven months. I took several trips back east for the recording sessions and we were on the phone almost daily. From the very beginning the song seemed to take on a life of its own. I can assure you that the words and music did truly come from heaven; we were just the messengers.

At the final recording session, Tony Ransom was laying down the lead vocals. I couldn’t look at Tony. The moment his beautiful voice began the opening riff that ends with “my baby”, I began to cry. I was in the control booth facing the back wall, tears streaming down my face. The words and music were everything I had prayed for, and much more. Iona, one of the co-writer/producers was standing next to me. After Tony sang about four lines, I glanced at her, tears splattering her silk blouse. We just nodded to each other in a knowing glance, both having experienced something we would never forget. It would not be the last time we would cry.

Over the next few weeks leading up to the wedding, I probably listened to the song a hundred times. Each time I cried at a different spot in the song. The count down for the wedding day had begun. I could not wait to give the toast that I had also worked on for a year and dance the father-daughter dance with my baby.

Finally, the big day arrived and all was ready. Iona and Clarence had flown in from Chicago, Iona, to give a very special introduction to our song. This is how it went:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a very special song. It has been in the works and has been writing itself for the last 27 years, 3 months, & 16 days. And, it's ready to be presented today.” A few of us were fortunate enough, including Alisha's father, myself, and my husband Clarence, to listen to words from The Heavenly Father and pass them on. This is what we heard:

As the song began, all I could do was just stand there and hold my daughter’s hands, looking into her eyes. She had never heard the song before, and, the moment had arrived. During the dance a panicked thought raced through my head, “I hope she likes the song and I pray that she really understands how much I love her.” As the song ended I backed away from her and just held her hands, again looking into her eyes. She was crying. I said to her, “Its ok, you don’t have to do that. I love you Baby”.

Well, I thought that I’d had my moment! I walked my baby over to her new husband, Jason, and gave him a big hug. As I turned around, to my amazement, most of the guests were crying, too. Even the waiters! I had never in my wildest dreams expected that to happen. I knew it was a beautiful and touching song, but I thought the tears in my eyes (and others involved in writing the song) were because we were so close to it. Immediately after, people started coming up to me and saying, “That was the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. Can I get a copy of it”?

I was astonished, but it didn’t stop there…

Shortly after, I began receiving telephone calls from wedding guests or friends of wedding guests that had heard about “When Angels Fly”, requesting a copy to play at their daughter’s wedding or someone else’s.

It has been over two years since my daughter’s wedding and the calls have not stopped. After thinking about it a great deal and talking it over with my wife and daughter, we decided to make the song available to everyone. If it can bless our lives as much as it has, maybe it will be a blessing to others, too?

Thanks for listening to this blithering old fool profess that special, unexplainable, undying love for his daughter. I do truly believe both my heart, and the writer’s hand was guided by the Heavenly Father. “When Angels Fly” is the perfect father-daughter dance song. Every note, straight from the heart; your angel will understand…

P.S. The beautiful young bride on the CD is my daughter and My Baby.

When Angels Fly
I absolutely love the CD. I think I listened to it about 50 times and I only got it last week. I played it for my mom and she just broke down in tears...my mom thought that it would be best if my dad hears it before the wedding (so he doesn't get too emotional on the day). Let's just say, he got too emotional when he listened to it 5 times...the song, he says, was very powerful and I heard him whisper to my mom..."This is exactly how I feel...unbelievable". It will be a magical moment!

When Angels Fly
The CD is a great! I am still at a debate of letting my dad listen to it before the wedding or letting him be surprised by the song I picked out. My wedding is June 24th and I am very excited to have this song in my wedding. I think it will mean a lot to my dad.

A very emotional and heartfelt song
A Father’s Perspective - It is a great song! I just finished listening to it. So, if I misspell my words it's because I can't see the screen through the tears in my eyes, REALLY!!!!

A Beautiful and Meaningful piece of music!!!
Where do I begin, actually, I am the Mother of the Bride. My daughter will be married on July 8th. One of three children, she is the only girl and I'm sure you'll appreciate the magnitude of emotions that come with such an event. Being the only girl, I'm also sure you can appreciate and relate to the special bond between a father and daughter that can't truly be expressed through spoken words.

I had searched numerous websites looking for a piece of music that my husband and daughter could dance to that was truly meaningful, that spoke from the heart, but nothing quite hit home. I stumbled on to When Angels Fly through one of the Wedding Websites, listened to the short sample and I was curious. I wanted to hear more, still unsure whether it was that special something I was searching for.

When the CD came, I immediately presented it to my husband and asked him to listen to it with me. I was truly touched by the lyrics and realized that it reached the core of my husband/daughter's relationship with each other. What parent doesn't question his/her guidance for their children or what parent doesn't beam with joy and pride over their children or what parent doesn't hesitate to let go.

In my opinion, it is a beautiful, meaningful piece of music that cannot be denied. I believe that God truly had his hands in its creation and had blessed everyone involved in this collaboration with a wonderful and talented gift. This piece of music was created especially for you and your daughter, a private conversation between the two of you; so I thank you for unselfishly sharing it with the world. Through music, you've succeeded in capturing those unspoken, yet understood words.

Which version did I like best? I enjoyed them all. I've told my daughter that my husband and I selected the music they'll dance to, but I am keeping it a secret from her. She will hear this beautiful music on her special day.

God bless you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

CD is great!
The CD is just what I'm looking for! I am so excited to select one of the version for my dad and me to dance to at my wedding. I couldn't have picked a better CD.

When I first heard about "When Angels Fly" I was amazed how beautiful it sounded. My Dad and I don't express very much how much we mean to each other, but this song sure did. There wasn't a dry eye at our Reception. I definitely recommend this song to anyone that has a strong bond with their Father!

I want to thank you for creating such a wonderful song. Our daughter’s wedding was this past November and one of the hardest decisions to make for my husband was what song to pick for the Father Daughter dance. We reviewed many lists and wrote a list ourselves and listened to them continually, but we would always agree, it just wasn’t perfect. Then I came across your web site and listened to your song and read the words, I became so emotional I started to cry. I went and got my husband and told him you have to listen to this, my husband said that’s the one that is what I feel, so we purchased it.

The day of the wedding when the Father and Daughter had their dance, it was amazing the most beautiful and most perfect song played. My daughter and husband are not individuals that get teary eyed but while dancing to “When Angels Fly” they did. It was incredible the song was so special that it seemed to transform the entire room and everyone there. Afterwards during the reception many of the guests inquired about the song and commented on what a beautiful song it was.

Sir you have written a MASTERPIECE, all though my husband and daughter both feel as if you wrote this song for them. We are so grateful I am at a lost for words to express how much “When Angels Fly” means to us. So I’ll just repeat myself and say thank you very much.

The Perfect Song!
“I have just received our copy of “When Angels Fly” for our daughters wedding in July. We had spent many hours on the internet searching for a song that represented the special relationship that they share. My husband finally made a decision from the few songs that were out there.

In the car one day that song came on the radio and she said; this song is so over used and over rated. He was crushed. That night in searching once again on the Internet we found a new song ”When Angels Fly”.

Once we heard it we both knew that this is the song we had been searching for. This is the perfect song and will be a very magical moment for them when they hit the dance floor.
I can’t wait to see the expression on her face!

Thank you so much for the creation of this song!”

A truly moving experience!
I've listened to it at least five (5) times and find the experience truly moving. I sincerely look forward
to my Daughter's Wedding Day and look forward with great anticipation to see the look on her face
when we dance to this incredible song.
