Album Notes
Through the process of crafting and recording "Giving It Up" for commercial use, Trevor got a glimpse of what a life in music could be like – and he was hooked.

About the track, Trevor says, “‘Giving It Up’ is about letting go of something or someone that is holding you back, and the liberation and positivity that result from taking that step. The lyrics touch on hardship and trial, but the overall upbeat tone of the track give that message a positive spin. I am an optimist at heart, and this song expresses the joy that can come from that mindset.”

“I had the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented and diligent people in the creation of “Giving It Up.” It’s easy to think that you have a good ear, and that you are a solid musician, until you sit in a room with an engineer and producer who can hear things at levels you didn’t even know were there. I feel so blessed to have had their help, and I think their expertise came through beautifully in the final product.”

“Giving It Up” features Trevor’s vocals over his original music and lyrics – as the bones of the song were originally crafted on the keyboard in his bedroom, a vibrant piano is prominently featured in the instrumentation. The bass and percussion were added in a way to make the song jive like a live performance; something you could jam to at a dive bar, a dance party, a barbecue, or wherever you have a good time.

The a cappella “nerd” in Trevor also shines through in the track, with layered harmonies throughout and a lush vocal breakdown in the latter half of the song. The final chorus culminates in just that – a chorus – of harmony and vitality, a last punch of sound that sends the song through the finish line.
