ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Eric A. Des Marais and Alexa Jones-Gonzales have been producing electronic music together since 2010. This album is their first release. Combining elements of ambeint, IDM, and trance, the album creates a feeling both melancholy and hopeful.

Eric has played guitar and keyboards for nearly 30 years. Growing up in Georgia's indie music scene centering on Athens, Georiga, he played in a string of indie bands including Afterimage, Chronic Savannah, Tone Deaf Radio, and Swoon 19 (https://soundcloud.com/swoon-19). A music geek, some of his favorite influences include Aphex Twin, Bauhaus, Boards of Canada, the Cure, the Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, The Orb, Patten, the Pixies, Rusuden, Slowdive, the Smiths, Sonic Youth, Spacemen 3, Swervedriver, TV on the Radio, and Tycho.

Alexa Jones-Gonzales, a native of Colorado, has been producing music as Partition 36 (http://www.partition36.com) for over ten years. She pulls on a range of electronic and computer influences including Boards of Canada, Kraftwerk, Bobby Prince, and Purple Motion to blend downtempo ambient with strong beats and progressive trance.

A special thanks to Christi Bittle for the album artwork!

Hope for the people of Earth
“Transmission 495” is an album that is fun to listen to no matter what mood you are in. The textured, atmospheric elements of each song send you on a trip to outer space. Your trip will be relaxing at some points, and a little anxiety inducing at others. Ultimately, your arrival back home leaves you with a hopeful feeling. And the desire to share this music with everyone you know.

Strong Debut
The eight cohesive tracks of this album provide enough texture to paint a new sonic landscape (though not enough to smother the listener as is common in electronic music). Highlights are the atmospheric piano treatments of Sol, Fall Apart, and Gymnopedie in addition to the more playful activity of Creation is Destruction and the tasteful noise (and vocoder!) of Dawn. Serious but not brooding, playful but not childish, these tracks work equally as well for focused listening as for background music. Such a strong first effort leaves the listener ready for more, so let's hope Treefungus will continue to produce quality tracks for some time.
