Album Notes
Round 1: IMPACT, Round 2: THE MOCHASUTRA, Round 3: REFIXX, Round 4: BLACK.OUT: Disc 1, Round 5: MARRY ME, Round 6: CODE RED.

Round seven brings forth COUTURE (CR-2), a twenty-two track adventure of never-ending funk, frolicking and verbal foreplay. This is Tori Fixx today, yesterday and even yet to come. “All of my work has lead to this album”, proclaims the man known as one of the Godfathers of Out Hip-Hop music. “It’s the perfect blend of past, present and future as far as my voice, my sound, and overall production.” And that’s just being modest.

COUTURE (CR-2) is doused in melodic hooks and catchy choruses, which has always been a trademark of Mr. Fixx, but here the hooks and choruses are dominating and un-forgetful with harmonies that are as rich and layered as a triple-decker German Chocolate cake. Tori has surely found new comfort in his singing voice most notably in such jams like “All Becuz”, the futuristic “Bare” and the tear jerking ballad called “Let Him Go”. Be it solo or joined by guest vocalist Lady Roth, T. Fixx is singing on nearly half of the tracks on this record much unlike his past work. It’s apparent that the phenomenon is evolving and looking to expand his audience as well as continue to mesh so many genres into a fresh on the ears, commercial sound.

Classic T. Fixx can still be found on this record in such bangers like “Massive”, “Double Dutch”, “I’m The Same”, and “Hip Hop Ain’t Me” in which Tori just sticks to being a storytelling emcee with a dope beat and a mic. Guaranteed to keep old Fixx fans satisfied, but COUTURE (CR-2) is all about new territory and experimentation such as the already fan favorite, “Cowboy”. A hybrid of dance, hip-hop and country that makes for one hell of a crossover hit record for dance-floors and radio stations alike (and he’s even got a new line dance for the song). On songs like “Bare”, “Girls Play”, “Can Eye Luv U?” “He’s Gone” and the first single and playful new anthem “WOOF!” T. Fixx taps into his knowledge and skills as a disc jockey to bring forth an electro drenched, funky, hip-house sound reminiscent of the likes of Kraftwerk, Parliament/Funkadelic and Roger Troutman all the way up to Daft Punk but still keeping many of the songs between 110-116 BPMs (for all of you DJ’s out there).

Yes the politics and activism is still here (“Eye Want to Know”, “I’m The Same”, “Hip Hop Ain’t Me?”). Yes the sex is still here as well (“Stunts & Shows”, “Dat Boi”, “Who Do U Want Me 2 B?”) And of course no T. Fixx album is complete without at least ONE anthem, which this time comes in the form of a jam called “DRANK!” (Just play it once and you’ll see). Add in guest appearances from MELANGE LAVONNE, DEADLEE, LAST OFFENCE, TIM’M T. WEST, UNECC, DA LYRICAL, FOXXJAZELL, DOWNLOW, YOLANDA ROTH, GOD-DES & SHE and JOHNNY D.A.N.G.E.R.O.U.S, all over tracks produced by “T. Fixx in the Mixx” and the recipe is complete. In 2007, The Advocate Magazine deemed Tori Fixx “The most ready for prime time” in Out Hip-Hop. COUTURE (CR-2) may well be the album to get him there.

Damn, Damn, Damn
In the words of Florida Evans from the 70's series GOOD TIMES, I must say "damn, damn, damn! Each CD really reveals another side of Tori Fixx. I've never had the opportunity to meet this talented icon, but I feel I know him through his lyrics. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself in such a honest way. Hats off to you!

"...An album that is truly universal, there is something that will appeal to eve
One of the godfathers, OG, etc. of the out hip hop world, Tori Fixx, has released the new album "Couture (CR-2).” Coming just over a year and a half after 2007’s “Code Red”, it showed out!

The album is dynamic in mood and feeling, if you’re clubbing, riding, or just relaxing...its all here.

Couture CR-2 is broken off into sections called “The Break Up”, “Single and Numb”, “The Workaholic” and “The Healing”. “The Break Up”, is apparently based on a very intense break up that clearly inspired this section of the CD. It starts off with "Love Don't Live Here", a jazzy live instrument based intro, and the personal meaning behind it is apparent. The 2nd track "He's Gone" is about that ex that you just had to say goodbye to. Track 3 "All Becuz" is a little more upbeat, maybe even club type track. The 4th track "Bare" begins the “Single and Numb” section of the CD, and has a nice old school rollin type beat. A sex song that has that fluid motion vibe, and even covers the topic of safe sex. "Dat Boi" is about them boys that want to give it up, no questions here. Can we say in the club again? I also heard something a little familiar to my eardrums-----Nice. I have said it before and I will say it again, this album is so dynamic with its club type tracks & Ballads. YES, Mr. Fixx has brought back the ballads, like LL said...... I need love. Skipping forward a bit, track 7 "Woof" is the lead single for the album. I am sure this will be big in the clubs for as long as folks use their mouths to get the word out. WOOF!

Fixx is an artist that steps out of the box and experiments with different styles and flavors, which explains the country infused track 9 "Cowboy". While the flavor is not for me, I can see the cowboy hat wearing gay folks (or non hip hop gay music lovers) getting their two step and line dancing on to this track.

With an album that is truly universal, there is something that will appeal to everyone. CR-2 also has some features on it that really deliver. Some of the featured guest artists are God-Des & She, DaLyrical, Unecc, Last Offence, Johnny Dangerous, Tim'm, & Melange Lavonne. If you like to drink and cocktail, then check out track 15 "Drank" as Deadlee and Down Low get their drank on with Mr. Fixx. With its catchy and easily repeated chorus, this can easily be a club (gay or straight) anthem as well.

I have only outlined just a portion of this great record, so what can be said other than “He’s Done It Again!" This is a must have for any hip hop head. I give this 4.5 rainbow mics. Pick it up, it’s worth every cent!

Some stands out tracks (amongst the 22!!!) are Dat Boi, Who Do You Want Me To Be, Got Game?, Hip Hop Ain't Me?, Massive, Drank, Stunts & Shows

Brilliant CD!!
