Album Notes
"In addition to the artist’s tasteful arrangements and masterful compositions, the quality of the mixes on “Music For Sketches” is also particularly notable. This unique release has a balanced tone through and through, and the clarity really helps the details and nuances in the music shine. The low end is tight and full, serving as the perfect foundation for a warm, bright midrange and a crisp top end that never feels brittle. I particularly love Tobias’ production aesthetics: they allow the songs to really reveal more of an emotional component, straying far from the over polished and plastic-y sound of some cinematic score music or neoclassical productions out there. On the other hand, Tobias opted for a clear, yet organic vibe, which really helps him breathe some life into these tracks and highlight these compositions for what they really are.

“Music For Sketches” feels like a powerful musical journey and you will certainly enjoy it if you are a fan of beautiful instrumental music." - The Bandcamp Diaries

"After a decade of musical exploration and experimenting, Tobias Svensson is ready with the EP «Music for Sketches”. This record is unique in so many ways. The idea of combining drawings and music like this is something I have never heard or seen before. I love the fact that there is a meaning behind the record and purpose.

When I first started to listen to this record I had no idea what to expect. What does inspiration sound like? What kind of music would I combine with drawings? Strangely enough, it all made sense as soon as I pushed play. The record starts off with a song called “Vagrant” and right off the bat I can recognize the songwriting talent behind the music. The structure of the song and the feeling that this song generates is exactly what one might expect, but still there is a few surprises in the build of the song and it makes all the difference in the world. This is what makes Tobias Svensson a songwriter in the highest division.

There are only two songs available at the moment, and the second track is “Forestry”. In my mind this is the strongest composition of the two. There is a unique drive in this track and a whole new feeling. One of the things that impresses me the most with this song is that I am imagining a whole story when listening to it. When you write instrumentals the storytelling part of the song (should) be more important. You don’t have lyrics to guide you and it’s up to the composer and the listener to find the story together. The story can be wildly different from listener to listener, but the idea and the possibility to do so, lays with the writer. This is without a doubt something Tobias has mastered.

I can’t wait to hear more music from this guy. Tobias Svensson is without a doubt a great songwriting talent and a guy we will be hearing a lot from in the future. The production of the record is near perfect. If we were a magazine who rated songs with stars (or whatever), this one would get five out of five. Since we are not that kind of magazine, let me say this.. Tobias Svensson has delivered the best songs of 2018." - ACT/ONE Magazine
