ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Broken Saints is a 'serial online graphic literature event' (read: online comic) which has captured the imagination of tens of thousands of fans - and dozens of major Internet awards - worldwide since its inception four years ago. Written and directed by Brooke Burgess, illustrated by Andrew West and designed and programmed by Ian Kirby, it tells the dark, unsettling but ultimately compelling story of four characters 'from the quiet corners of the globe' who are brought together by shared experiences, dark visions and hardships to face a terrifying threat.

In addition to contributing previously existing music from my albums, 'Passage' and 'A Suite Hereafter', I have produced a body of new work dedicated to the story, to help form the soundtrack to this acclaimed series. With the addition of some tracks from supporting composer Quentin Grey, this forms the second half of the Broken Saints soundtrack, presented here as volumes 3 and 4.

Broken Saints Volume 4 focuses on the final, climactic chapters, from 19 through the series finale in chapter 24. As such it contains numerous powerful, pivotal themes: from 'ConZenTrix' (the DVD trailer) through 'Pollution', 'Hope Dies' and 'Tiga' (Quentin's dark techno masterpieces from chapter 19) through the 'Fungal Fantasy' Suite ('Kami's Trip' etc., from chapter 20's strange and hallucinatory journey) through 'The Storm' (chapter 24 prologue), 'Sanctum', 'Breach' and 'Truth' (chapter 24's astonishing climax) to 'Approach' (the mournful theme from the opening moments of the Epilogue). All in all, quite an intense journey, and one which hopefully leaves you thinking as well as feeling a bit differently...

Add emotion and stir . . .
The story here is amazing. Now, it may seem irrelevant to use the word "story" for a music CD, but the relevance is clear once you hear it: these pieces were created to tell a STORY (Broken Saints, of course) and they quite succeed at doing so. From the "Fungal Fantasy Suite" of personal revelations for the main characters, to the chilling and tense concluding themes, these pieces are incredibly evocative. It doesn't hurt that they were constructed with actual talent behind them, too--but that becomes immediately obvious anyway upon hearing the professional soprano and other components. All in all, this is a very satisfying CD.
