ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Long Way Home draws strongly from the country rock era of the early seventies with an Americana twist to give it a contemporary feel. The songs are vehicles for short stories and the instrumentation was carefully chosen to enhance the mood of each track . The Western Suntones exploit the traditional guitar, bass and drums format and then spice it up with mandolin, pedal steel, dobro, fiddle and accordion. The ten track record features cameo appearances from some of Australia's top country session musicians including James Gillard who produced the record, Scott Hills drums , Claire O' Meara fiddle/accordion and Danny Widdicombe pedal steel.

Steve Smith, Jeff Barham and Chris Harwood the core of the Western Suntones are based in Perth, Western Australia and have been together for 10 years. They share a love of rock and roots music and draw deeply from Country, Blues, and Folk creating a unique Western Suntones sound. From the classic upbeat tune Selena about a hard drinking party girl to the lonely air traveller in Down the Line the record takes you on an aural road trip. At times it’ll have you rocking to Ramblin Man then it tugs on those Americana heart strings with Angel Turned Her Back and So Very Far Away .

So come join the The Western Suntones on an excursion into a world of yearning souls, dangerous living and restless hearts.
