ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Thanx for your time ! To roundup a greater variety of some catchy Western-style tunes, please checkout my album California Countre' : ) One of the most unimportant things not to remember about this song is that the word " for " is only used two times and all of the others are ' brev'ations of " before "

Forty Years in Heaven ( Lyrics + Songology )

Chorus :

Forty years in heaven ' fore the devil knows yer gone
Forty years ' fore the devil knows yer gone
Forty years since the angels ' song
Forty years since they came along
Forty years ' fore the devil knows yer gone

Verse :

Tried to live yer life the best you could
Always knew the dif ' rence ' tween bad and good
But things can go astray, livin ' day by day
And now it's time for you to be on yer way

Chorus

Break

Little bit o' luck an ' little bit o' fate
Ya give it all ya got then sit and wait
Givin ' up the fight with wrong 'n' right
till yer final good-night
Little bit o' love an ' a little bit o' hate
Ya give it all ya got then " just you wait "
Givin ' up yer fight for right or wrong
till yer final good-night
yer final good-night

Chorus

Forty years in heaven ' fore the devil knows yer gone
Forty years ' fore the devil knows yer gone
Forty years since the angels ' song
Forty years knowin ' right from wrong
Forty years since the angels sighed
Forty years since you had died

May there be ... forty years in heaven ... before the devil ... knows ... yer dead

I was watchin' the picture-viewin' box a fortnight or so ago when I saw this here fellar named Greg'ry Peck givin' some sort o' speech or somethin' ( I think 'e's some kinda famous mockin'bird killer or somethin' ).
Anyhow, he ended 'is little dis'ertation with one of them ol' proverb'al Irish sayin's, wishin' ev'rybody " forty years in heaven before the devil knows you're dead ". Twern't the first time I'd ever heard that ol' sayin', but just seemed to strike a chord at the time ; ended up writin' this here song. hope ya see fit to 'njoy it somewhat. Thank ya.
