ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
It has been well over a decade since The Israelites last released an original full length album. During the time, a musical journey has lead up to the album that you hear today. It all started in 2007 when frontman Rich Carlstedt moved to Oregon from Los Angeles, California. He wished to produce an album with an authentic sound and began looking for the right line up of musicians in order to do so.

Buddy Jay, a tenor saxophone player, and Dr. Joe, a trombone player, joined the band around 2009. Next came Paul Leigh, who plays both electric and upright bass. The introduction of the upright bass into the band set it apart from many other ska bands. This instrument gives the sound an authentic vibe reminiscent of Lloyd Brevett of The Skatalites. With the addition of great musician John England-Fisher on keys and occasional trumpet, the band felt almost complete. The ever elusive search for a drummer emerged; but by an act of God, the original drummer Jason Garcia rejoined the band after an almost 30 year absence. The band finally felt complete and the result is the release of this new album.

The band has been playing several of the tracks for years and they have had a chance to grow over time. A variety of incredible guest musicians added an even bigger spark to this musical collection. One notable player is Lester Sterling, who is the last remaining original member of The Skatalites. Nathan Breedlove, who is a brilliant trumpeter who toured with the Skatalites for many years, also plays on this record. Alan Trammell, who was a member of the Israelites band for years, has recorded on every album since the very beginning. A couple staple members of Buddy Jay’s Jamaican Jazz Band, Johnny Powell and Camille Bernal, also appear on the record. There are more brief musical appearances from others involved in the Portland ska and reggae scene, including a guitar solo from the album engineer, Curtis Irie as well as exceptional Organ grooves by former Israelites Keyboardist Travis Anfinson.

The combination of the expert recording of Curtis Irie, the production elements from Buddy and Rich, the beautiful mastering of Solomon Jabby and the graphic design of Caleb Olson, create what is quite possibly the best Israelites record to date! With over two years in production, this was truly a labor of love for Rich and the band. The Israelites are elated to bless your ears with some authentic Jamaican ska rocksteady and reggae! We bring you the restoration of The Israelites!
