Album Notes
Chico Buarque de Hollanda, a songwriter for the ages, a composer/lyricist whose songs settle into your memory as if you yourself had been part of the story they tell. Chico started writing songs in the mid-60s. Why he has had to wait this long for a translator, I don't know, but I'm glad the task has somehow found its way to me. Over four hundred songs now comprise Chico Buarque's ongoing work. His music resonates well past his country's borders into American jazz, Brazilian samba, Euro-American pop, theatrical avant-garde, and on and on. If I now nudge it into the universe of our language, it is only because I can't let a lodestone of such power and beauty go unreported. So here you have it: eight songs by Brazil's Chico Buarque with new English lyrics: The Chico Buarque Project, Volume I. Welcome.

Why did it take so long
So, another great artist who we have been deprived of all these years. Thanks for bringing this wounderful tallented songwritter to the US via

Chico, a welcome guest in my home
I first heard these songs at a night club in LA about a year ago, and have been waiting for the chance to bring them into my home and car ever since. I just ordered one for myself and one as a gift for an artist who likes to listen to inspiring music while she paints. Thank you. Looking forward to to more.
