Album Notes
Terra Guitarra – Dragonfly

This album of instrumental Spanish style guitar music is the fourth release in the Terra Guitarra collection. The songs were composed throughout the year of 2011 starting with the first song on the project “Janvier”, which was written in January.
The recording showcases a musical journey of travels and expressions of acoustic guitar at it’s most emotional and passionate.
The entire CD insert is also a mini art show of paintings guitarist Bruce Hecksel created throughout the recording process of the album and for the project, in his original theme of guitar landscapes, Terra Guitarra.

"The hills are certainly alive with the sound of Music" in these paintings and you can hear it on the masterful playing of the album.

Terra Guitarra is an instrumental duo of acoustic guitarists who perform their own brand of nuevo-flamenco music, that popular Spanish-influenced style that is comprised of highly-rhythmic strumming and fast-picked solos. Their new Dragonfly album is their fourth recording and it exemplifies their strengths -- interplay and supportiveness between the guitars, strong melodies, breath-taking solos, and well-planned arrangements. They play with inventiveness, finesse and passion. The music is festive, uplifting and joyful. As their name suggests, the music consists of earthy, nature-inspired guitar explorations within a Latin style. Bruce Hecksel handles the bulk of the songwriting and the lead guitar solos (mostly on a classical or Spanish-style nylon-string guitar) and Julie Patchouli is in charge of rhythm-guitar (often strumming but sometimes finger-picking a steel-string acoustic). Both contribute percussion and other musical brush-strokes within the production. Besides his artistic endeavors in the musical world, Hecksel also is a talented painter (his artwork adorns the album cover and the CD’s inside booklet). The duo comes out of a strong folk singer-songwriter background (with time also spent playing rock, jazz and classical) which contributes to their melodic sensibilities. Terra Guitarra is quickly becoming one of the top nuevo-flamenco groups in the world, garnering extensive airplay and legions of new fans with each new recording, and performing several hundred concerts every year.

The RajMan Review
The fourth album by this particular incarnation of guitar-playing duo Bruce Hecksel and Julie Patchoulie is one of the most passionate and invigorating CDs I’ve heard in the genre.

Hecksel, who created all the artwork for the release, plays lead on nylon-string guitar, in addition to playing steel-string and 12-string acoustic guitars. Patchoulie rounds out the sound with rhythm acoustic guitars. The two also play other instruments, such as keyboards and percussion.

Hecksel and Patchoulie have a lock-step chemistry that comes through on the disc, no doubt thanks in part to the fact that they have performed together long before Terra Guitarra and simultaneously play, record, and tour as the folk-rock group Patchoulie.

Besides their accomplished and virtuosic guitar playing, Hecksel and Patchoulie are also tuneful and creative composers and arrangers. As a result, the album is extremely palatable for both guitar aficionados and casual music lovers.

This is definitely a winner.
