Ghosts We Forget

by Suicide Swans

Open the gates and stand clear this Australian band that play a brand of alt/country, with the chug of 60’s/70’s rock with dashes of pop and the ragged glory of 4 part harmonies. The album is firmly planted in the bands cosmic country roots.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Open the gates and stand clear Suicide Swans are an Australian that play a brand of roots rock, with the twang of country, the chug of 60’s/70’s rock with dashes of pop that they term cosmic country. The band formed in 2012 born out of bedroom jams consisting of Kyle Jenkins (guitar/vocals), Kristian McIvor (multi-instrumentalist/vocals) & Glen O’Shea (drums) with a variety of friends contributing to the ever changing line up. Their early sound was rooted in classic country and folk but with the addition of multi-instrumentalist/vocalists Ben Lancaster and Morgan Hann, the Suicide Swans expanded their live sound to include waves of piano, synthesizers and organ, textural atmospherics and a new found penchant for experimentation, tossing in a mix of country, pop and psychedelic rock.

The band released their first self-titled EP in 2013 on their own label Near Enough through Green Media/MGM, an introduction to their country rock leanings. Through constant live shows that display the ragged glory of 4 part harmonies, the swagger of rock and laid back mid tempo country, the band has grown into a live force.

In late 2013 the band retreated to their studio, By the Living Grace, to record and mix their full-length debut Ghosts We Forget mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, New York. The album fluctuates between rolling mid tempo pastoral acoustic songs such as Great Divide and Everything Must Pass, country lamentations Pinkhearts and In Spite of the Dark Times, classic country rock Torn & Frayed and Shadows of the Lights, blissed out lap steel scuzz rock of Confetti and Someone’s Chrome, the banjo/harmonica mountain anthem of Pine Mountain and the expansive cosmic country jams of Safe in Ours Arms, See Similar Stars and the first single from the album Marriage Song.

The album Ghosts We Forget is the beginnings of a band that paints with the broad strokes of what is termed alt/country however what this album represents is a coming out party of a band confident and on the move as they expand their sound into new territories while keeping one foot firmly planted in their early cosmic country roots.
