Album Notes
Khaalsa Panth, in the Sikh tradition, is the spiritual pathway of the pure and holy. It is the way of the Gurus, the enlightened masters, who established the tenets of the faith and in which singing the Naam (the Name) is the quintessential practice of the faithful. In 1999, the three hundred year anniversary of the founding of Khaalsa Panth was celebrated. To honor the occasion, Sri Karunamayee was invited to offer music at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Eight original compositions emerged, seven of which are included in this recording. The music was composed according to the prescribed ragas (musical forms) of the Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh scripture), in an effort to reflect the sentiment and purity of the texts. With gratitude for the grace of the Guru spirit, this is her humble homage to Khaalsa. The CD includes a 10 page booklet of English translations.
