Album Notes
The Sparta Philharmonic was formed in 1998 in Sparta, NJ by brothers Greg and Alex Bortnichak. We played a lot of shows, went through a lot of gear, released one e.p. ("Snapshots of A Life Lived on Weekends") and one very rare single ("Polaroid Negatives"), and then took a two year hiatus. Greg did a record with The Metal Hearts, and two with Richard Cortez, then more shows... Alex became a pilot and a damn-fine place-kicker. Now, we're moving -Arizona and Baltimore probably, so we are back in action -playing shows and finishing our first full-length, "Paper-Mache Mountains," which is tenatively set to be released on July 21st, 2006.

Extravagant, genre sculpting innovators of their craft
Let your ears bleed and your jaw tense. These screeching, immense guitar squalls and pounding, crashing drums that sweep you off of your feet like a first love or your first drunk, unstable. That is what this music will do to you if you let it; capture you in its personified action. Greg and Alex Bortnichak are bringing light to what music has needed for the past 10 years with Paper-Mache Mountains because they know it needed to be illuminated; they've seen all ends of the spectrum and crystallized it in their sound. Life changing? Well, that depends on what you let change your life. That depends on what you want a song or an album to be. But I know this as someone who goes through enough musical phases to feed a 3rd world country: this is the “New Energy Music”. This is the future, glowing… and I’m Looking Forward To It.
