ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Smitty and Julija are well-known for their live and recorded presentation of beautiful song-poems by artists such as Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, and now release a 14-song collection of original music, recorded, mixed and published in the beautiful artist enclave of Ojai, California.

This collection includes songs written by Smitty, Julija, and four of their favorite songwriters from Ojai, Robert Shelor, Mark Solomon, Doc Murdock, and Deen Hatoum.

Yummy vocal arrangements, simple instrumentation, but featuring some of the great artists of Ojai, including cellist Virginia Kron, guitarist Alan Thornhill, harmonica player Lynn Mullins, jazz pianist Stephen Cox, and more!

This album features two beautiful songs "Return To Me" and "Let Her Go" written by Julija that harken back to her formative years in Herzegovina and Croatia. Smitty, known for his award-winning comedic writing, has a few to touch your funny bone, "Trust Fund Hippy", "You Can Be Beautiful Too", and "Persistent Vegetative State Blues." Two of his ballads on the album were influenced by his humanitarian work in land-mine action in the Middle East, "Tyre", and "The Apple Tree Stands And Waits."

A beautiful collection, years in the making. Thank you for supporting the creation of beautiful songs by purchasing this album.

Magnificent
This CD is absolutely beautiful. I am a 60's folk girl at heart, and this is the music I love. I have been waking up in the morning with "God, the Grace" playing in my mind. Thank you for this. I am loving it.

Another great album from Smitty and Julia and friends
I love listening to Smitty and Julija make music. They are like storytellers, or maybe actors, who take on the life of each song they sing, expressing the lyrics and mood, straight from the heart. This new CD of original songs by Smitty and Julija, and some of their songwriting friends, is full of story. Stories of love and loneliness and longing, with a nice dose of Smitty's humorous songs mixed in, and even those have a real sense of character, of lives being lived by real people. I love this album, but I'm giving you fair warning, these songs can get inside your head and you may wake up in the middle of the night singing one or another of them. You know how that goes. For more of my thoughts about Smitty and Julija and their music, read my review of their CD, To Leonard with Love.

Wonderful
This might be the most listenable album I've heard in years. It's such a wonderful mix of heartfelt ballads, humorous tales & poignant storytelling. Somehow it all works. Julija is a singer's singer, whether belting it out or gently offering a more vulnerable lilt & Smitty a true wordsmith with a sober, yet wry baritone. Together, they are magic!
