Fat Saussage for dinner

by Stinky Lou and the Goon Mat

Here's something unique-a trio of french bluesmen playing guitar and washtub/one-man-band drums/Harmonica ala Hooker, T-Model or R.L. Burnside. This is not 'cutting edge' blues, but gutbucket played with a lot of feeling and energy.

Album Notes
Stinky Lou & The Goon Mat are Mathias Dalle (the goon, on guitar and vocals) and his best friend Laurent Goossens (the stinky ! on the washtub)... No need to say that the duet works on strong basis ! Duet, not exactly, cause it's a trio now !!! Lord Benardo, the Harmonica player joined the band !

A repertoire of compositions of their own in the same vein than J.L.Hooker, T Model Ford, R.L.Burnside, a root-mannered guitar playing, inspired by the Delta blues, and unusual rythmics (a washtub and one man band drums !), all set immediately recalls the Juke Joints atmosphere at the heroic age. All this played with a lot of energy!!

Would you be convinced, you'd just have to listen to their brand new CD 'Fat sausage for dinner (produced by Marc T/naked productions), espacially the track (my favorite) : « Tell Me ». That composition of their own, worthy to the greatest songwriters, has true blues lyrics: three or four simple sentences that will move you, emphasized by a voice and a guitar-sounding that spread a wide range of emotions...
Stinky Lou & The Goon Mat have not only taken the spirit of blues in : they also master the writing of it.

CD Baby

If swampy, crunchy, front porch slide guitar blues is one of your things, Stinky Lou and the Goon Mat holds all the ingredients to get the foot pumping and the head swaying. With enough edge to shear through iron, enough fire to burn through steel, their songs are packed with substance, ache and honest to goodness Delta twang. A real gem here.

Great straight thru
Any Fan of Fat Possum should be a fan of the Goon Mat.
Stinky Lou's washtub bass is awesome and Lord Bernardo can suck those reeds.

If you like Fat Possum hillstomping Blues this is for you.

Would not be out of place in FP Blues catalogue.
I'd like to get to see these guys play a gig.

the track "I don't treat you right"(Club Mix)could be RL him self playing his latter day recordings when he was in his dance groove!!

play this in your car & you would go the slow route..brilliant stuff !!

Maxx England

A go-see band
Don't you step on mes bleus chauds! You Drive Me Crazy - Little Walter with Jimmy Reed's backing band was brilliant - Black Mattie hit the groove and that last Club Mix was hypnotic.
The only personal downside was the slide playing generally was less hardcore than my own preference, but that's the performer's rightful choice.

Jeff Cameron

Savage & Brilliant!!!!
Absolutely KILLER take on the Mississippi jook style and Fat Possum-style blues!!! Can't wait until the next cd!!!
