ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Confessions of an Optimist 2019
The songs are all Pauken/Harris compositions, and show off Harris’s catchy vocals and Pauken’s mastership of everything with strings, especially the mandolin and bass.
There are a bunch of good songs on the disk. “Get You” and “Wrap Me Up” both have a funky, upbeat feel to them. “Everything” has a full band sound. On “Naked as Fools” Harris shares vocals with lead guitarist Hadden Sayers on what might be the best cut. “A Lot Like You” shows Harris’s range, while “Wake Me Up” is both upbeat and soulful. The heartfelt “That’s All” is the best of several strong ballads. “Only Love” is the closer, and features a piano intro by Kevin Patrick Sweeney and fine guitar work by Sayers.
Confessions of an Optimist features gifted songwriting from a perspective of slightly older woman, with a sound that’s both a bit rootsy and a bit country. This is a very good CD and I highly recommend it. Hope it gets them some airplay outside of Columbus and on some of the streaming services; Molly Pauken and Kay Harris deserve the national recognition.

“From a reviewer who hates superlatives, Sirens is no less than an amazing accomplishment”
-Adam Garrett, Columbus Alive

Sirens music is all about the unique melody, the expression through lyric & voice and the texture of acoustic guitar & bass coming together to create unique but timeless pop songs. Their original compositions range stylistically from pop to acoustic rock to blues to funk to folk to create Sirens' own unique sound.

Sirens is comprised of Kay Harris and Molly Pauken, two of Ohio's most sought after studio and live-performance musicians. In addition to writing and performing their own music, Kay and Molly lend their vocal and instrumental talents to all varieties of CD, album and video projects.
In addition to performing as a duo, they also frequently perform as a quartet with Pete Cary on guitar, bass and vocals and Jeff Peters on drums and percussion, and as a quintet with Craig Markley on Keyboards and Accordion.

They have toured throughout Europe and the Middle East with Jonalee White &The Late Night Driver providing music for U.S. troops through Armed Forces Entertainment, and other charitable organizations.

"Her (Kay) voice is one of the most beautiful instruments I've ever heard".
-Grandview Café

Kay Harris has been an integral part of the Central Ohio music scene for a number of years. As a vocalist and songwriter for most of her life, she has been involved with numerous CD and demo projects. Kay also has provided lead and backup vocals for scores of local and national jingles and traveled throughout the U.S., Hong Kong & Puerto Rico, singing for various conventions and fundraisers. Throughout the year she also performs with the Columbus jazz-fusion band Flippo to perform several Joni Mitchell tribute concerts, all of which received rave reviews.

“Pauken shines on bass and guitar, and turns in a couple of solid drum tracks too. Molly’s bass work is killer! Serious slap-style funk grooves, cohesive compositional style.” (Nashville Music Row Magazine.)

Multi-instrumentalist Molly Pauken has played bass, guitar, drums and mandolin in a number of Columbus-based bands, covering a wide range of musical styles. In addition to Sirens, Molly plays with McGuffey Lane, Rodney Crowell, The John Schwab Band, Jonalee White, The Ladies of Longford and various other area artists. As a top-demand session musician, Molly can be heard on hundreds of CD and demo projects. Her first solo recording "Her Kaleidoscope", features the first Harris/Pauken collaboration, "Could've Been Mojo". The all original album displays Molly's jazz, R&B, fusion and Brazilian influences. "Her Kaleidoscope" was praised in Nashville's Music Row Magazine, as well as many other Central Ohio and national publications. Molly is endorsed by Musicman and Markbass .

Absolutely fantastic
As with Sirens other two albums, Confessions of an Optimist is absolutely fantastic. No fillers, no skipping. In fact I usually put it on repeat play and listen several times a day. Sirens Kay Harris and Molly Pauken are two very talented Ladies. Don’t hesitate to pick this title up and their two previous titles. You won’t be disappointed.
