ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This long-anticipated creative project brings a fresh sound to children's educational music. The compositions draw from some of the classic musical sounds that permeated the airways in years past. Artist and executive producer, Lori Ann Butler infuses this album with musical influences from her childhood in the 1970s, most notably from the soothing and hip styles of that decade's children’s shows, such as Schoolhouse Rock!, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, and Sesame Street. The album's signature sound also features an appealing mix of styles -- from American folk music, jazz, and gospel, to Caribbean ska.

The inspiration behind the "sing and say" songs featured on this recording derives from the triumphs and challenges of first-time motherhood. As the proud parent of a vivacious four-year-old, Lori Ann wrote these memorable melodies to help her kiddo transition from one activity to another and to add a spark of excitement to his daily schedule. The song lyrics narrate a range of routine activities, such as getting up in the morning, going to bed, brushing your teeth, walking down the stairs, and practicing dinner-table etiquette (e.g., how to hold a fork and spoon).

Everyday Sing & Say, Vol. I is also a family affair. Lori Ann is joined by her husband and young son, each of whom chimes in to lay down vocals. Her husband musical contributions also include two original compositions. The end result is a purely delightful collection of songs that will make you smile and sing along. You will hear in this music the love, joy, and tenderness that comes from the special bond this family shares with one another.

Who is Lori Ann Butler?
Lori Ann Butler is a musician, songwriter, and entrepreneur. A true polymath, she holds a bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music, a master’s degree in Music Technology from New York University, a master’s degree in Educational Technology from Teachers College, Columbia University, and she has also completed Ph.D. coursework in the Learning Sciences Institute at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Beyond these academic studies, Lori has spent over twenty years engaged in academic tutoring and has cultivated a deep fascination with the ways in which musical elements such as tempo, rhythm, and inflection can be deployed to support children's learning and take it to the next level.

Lori Ann is by no means new to the world of musical composition. In fact, she has been writing songs since she was a young teen, and her work has been performed both in sacred and secular settings. During her undergraduate years, she directed one of her original songs with the Berklee's Reverence Gospel Choir. Since then, she has recorded several other musical pieces, some of which stem from poignant experiences in her life.

Everyday Sing & Say, Vol. I is the first release to showcase Lori Ann Butler's songwriting skills in the children’s music industry. This album represents a pivotal moment in her career as she returns to her first love: making music! Listeners -- both young and young-at-heart -- are now invited to savor this tasty offering, as she comes full circle, finds her groove, and shares it with a new audience.
