Album Notes
SHORTY&SLIM is a pleasing blend of Calypso, Reggae, and Caribbean sounds with a touch of Rock-n-Roll, and has best been described as “Canal Zone Folk Music”!! Conceived in a Gamboa living room in 1992 and later captured on 4 CD productions, (Life on Mango Street ‘95, Gone Platano ‘97, ‘Tird One ‘99, and Down to Panama ‘06) it is written all about Panama and the Canal Zone by Panamanian Zonians, and it’s the only musical production of its kind to truly capture the sights, sounds and experiences of living in or visiting the beautiful Paradise of Panama and the Canal Zone. It is Original, feel-good music that will make you laugh, cry and remember the days.

GONE PLATANO was recorded during long weekend sessions in Bailito Chan's Studio, PANAVox, Bella Vista Panama. Alex was working in Colon at the time, so Saturday night and Sundays were the only free days to work. Much of the music was pre-recorded MIDI with the help of Jim Hashman, the music man himself.

This Second Shorty&Slim production still maintains the trademark S&S Goofs, the catchy choruses, and gets a little emotional with "CalypZonian" and "Until We Meet" again. Take the Plunge and buy your copy. You shan't be disappointed.

If you love Panama (and I know you do)...the S&S tunes will take you there.
No need to ask because I'll tell you straight up...I'm Shorty and Slim's biggest fan!!! If you love Panama (and I know you do)...but have, perhaps, not been there in a while, the S&S tunes will take you there. Just close your eyes and you are in the Zone (pun positively intended). For me their unique brand of musical story-telling provides a mode of time travel and I frequently hop on-board. I listen in my car...and sometimes at night as I drift off to sleep. Their songs whisk me away to my carefree days in the sun. If music is fun...these guys are having a ball...and it is infectious. I can't say enough. Dave and Alex are just tremendously talented and their stories are told in bold, harmonious color in every song. This is not a sales pitch...it is just your old buddy Darren sharing his excitement about a truly good thing. Listen to these discs and try not to smile. Impossible. With best regards to my good friends from the Class of 82//Darren.

ahhhhh to be there and be young too!
so fun to hear the places, food and things we knew and loved when we lived in the Canal Zone... even military brats loved the place! See you at the next Pan Canal Reunion in Florida!

A musical journey home to the Zone!
Shorty and Slim have succesfully found a way to take displaced Zonians back home in songs that bring memories flooding back! Their songs range from comical to heartfelt to anywhere in between all the while making you wish you were back home in the Canal Zone!!

Zonian Poetry
Gone Platano is a wonderful continuation of the musical folklore of the Panama Canal Zone. It reflects our lives in Paradise. It still makes me homesick, makes me laugh and makes me cry. Thank you David and Alex.

Best Claypso mix with reggae, flork and rock
Shorty and Slim a band from Rep of Panama successfully blended of Colypso, reggae, flok and rock music into a light, smooth sound with lyrics about Panama the Canal and the Canal Zone Town. Thy love Panama and the old Canal Zone days the Canal Zone was a town in Panama untell the U.S.A. gave it back to Panama. The Canal is a water way that ships from all over the world us to get cago from one place to anathere faster.Gave the Canal Zone in 1979 to Panama and December 31, 1999 marked the transfer of the Paname Canal from the United States to the Republic of Panama. We remember all those who built, maintained, and secured the Panama Canal so that the world could have a "shortcut". All of us that were so fortunate to be a part of this marvel, in whatever capacity, take great pride in what was accomplished. We all left a part of ourselves in the Canal and Canal Zone Town of Panama. — Will always have a special place in our hearts for this place. The music talks about the life they lived in the Canal Zone Panama and people that worked on the Panama Canal.Panama is Paradise to theme and me to . They Love Pamama and want to sing about it.God Loves You Me To Daniel Reyes
