Album Notes
Every so often an artist appears who radiates a timeless quality and inexhaustable energy that reminds us of what listening to music is all about. For years now, Rob Ryan has exhilarated audiences with his brand of up-tempo, hard driving honky-tonk, leaving his fans electrified and making converts of anyone within earshot.

Rob Ryan's original hard country songs contain the down-to-earth truthfulness and skillfully crafted hooks that leave a tune branded in our minds ("straight ahead infectious country" College Music Journal). His resonant baritone voice can stretch from a yodel to a growl and has a dynamic timbre reminiscent of the great country voices who have preceeded him ("After hearing him sing, I knew he was a dedicated follower of root American forms" NY Daily News).

Rob Ryan - Highway Man
An excellent disc that I knew nothing of just stumbled across it on this site and sure am glad I did.

Peters at CD Baby

A true gem for fans of rockabilly, old school country, and honky tonk music, Highway Man has a wonderful in-your-face immediacy that's as catchy as it is gutsy. Founded on the stellar combination of relentlessly driving acoustic guitar, upright bass, and brilliantly tasteful electric guitar licks, this sounds like a roadhouse band that you could have heard 50 years ago, and that's a good thing. This is no novelty act though, the melodies are quite strong and the musicianship impeccable, with Ryan's voice sounding at times like Willie Nelson, at others like Ryan Adams. And with many of the songs coming in at around the two and a half minute mark, these catchy country ditties never overstay their welcome.

Dang, this is just one solid good CD. The uptempo songs make me break the speed limit and the swagger insinuates itself into my head. It's all done with down home simple mixes and clean arrangements. This ain't the fake stuff radio tries to pass off on us. This is the real deal.
