Album Notes
Italian American New York native singer/songwriter Roxanne Fontana has been making music publicly since 1980. Her catchy melodies and her combination of high brow intellectual, & romantic sentimental lyrics put her in a field all by herself. Her soft emotional voice and style has been compared to The Shangrilas, Janis Ian, Marianne Faithfull and Francoise Hardy, while her songwriting style influences are Jagger/Richards, Dylan and Lennon/McCartney. Roxanne has played nightclubs with bands as a front singer, or singer and guitarist, as well as solo acoustic shows.
Her catalogue consists of 2 albums, and 3 singles:
Love Is blue - an electronica album featuring her songs as well as a cover of the 1968 smash hit "Love Is blue" - produced by Dino Danelli drummer of The Rascals;
Souvenirs D'Amour - a folk rock album with orchestrated keys very reminiscent of the mid 1960s - recorded by Gordon Raphael and features himself and a stable of the finest young NYC musicians.
"Green" is an original environmental lament released by Roxanne in 2007 but recorded in NYC Electric Ladyland Studios in 1992.
"The Fields of St Etienne" is a single recorded by Roxanne in her current home of England. The song is a cover of a Gallagher/Lyle anti-war song. Gallagher/Lyle were a 'house' songwriting team for Apple Records England in the late 1960s.
"Another Place" was originally only intended as a recording for a video of Roxanne shot in the South of France in 2009 on her 50th birthday. She was pleased with the result and decided to make it available for sale. Roxanne has been covering "Another Place" on and off in acoustic shows for many years.
