Old Cars, Motorcycles, Buddies and New Gals

by Randy and the Retreads

About half the songs are country rock, upbeat, catchy melodies, often humorous. The other half are a variety of styles: metal, fifties rock, fifties jazz. The lyrics regarding the classic cars are accurate and Old Harley Breakdown Blues is mostly true.

Album Notes
Many of the songs are in country rock style and are tributes to many makes of American cars including now-defunct classics. Old Harley Breakdown Blues is just as the title says, in a country swing style, and also references Triumph, BSA and Norton. Speed Crazy is about sports cars, hot rods, racing and all kinds of performance vehicles (land, water and snow). I Want to Ride is in a somewhat Beach Boys / California surf style about a guy and his motorcycles. Jenny and Jilly is a fifties rock song (think Crocodile Rock) about sexy pole dancers. There is a traditional Country and Western country style song about a gal in a cowgirl outfit who is the hit at square dances and tail gate parties - a favorite of female listeners. Drinkin' Buddies is about having beers after work to relieve the stress of various jobs. The Grim Reaper is a metal style song. Hollister is a fake documentary about the 1947 so-called biker gang riot in that California town which lead to the 1953 movie The Wild One.
