ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I’m cooling my bones in the lazily lit Nuyorican Poets Café in the east village. A sweet anticipation falls on the crowd as a deep raspy voice descends from the microphone to eagerly awaiting ears. Rahc El throws a quick smile to the crowd. “How you guys feelin,”and we’re off. Swept into a world in which Rahc El’s soulfully rugged angelic voice unapologetically disrobes the hidden secrets of the soul.

Rahc El, born Rachel Joy Pletts to parents Dennis and Diana Pletts grew up in Jamestown, New York. Intertwining her old soul wisdom, beautifully beat up vocals, and bluesy mood, this singer/song writer is a breath of fresh air to the existing universe of music. Humbly I introduce to you the world’s newest soul reviving songbird, Rahc El.

Steadfast, Rahc El’s debut album was released April 17th 2007. To taste, Steadfast is a collection of soul gutted lyrics accompanied mostly by bare bones piano and acoustic guitar, at times a roaring thunderstorm breaks to a full orchestra taking the wheel.

Voicing much of the internal struggle between heart, soul, and mind Rahc El breaks it down in Steadfast, the headlining song singing, “My heart is willing, my flesh is in trouble, my spirit is wanting, but I’m havin struggle.” Rahc El paints elaborate tapestries depicting troubles, trials and transformations that come as a result of living and breathing while rockin out these soulful rhythm and blues tunes.

Singing in church at five, playing piano at six, writing and composing her first song at seven, Rahc El exhibited not only the beautiful gift of music but a desperate love for her passion that only grew in intensity with each passing year. Growing up in the church allowed Rahc El’s life to be heavily saturated with music. “We listened to whatever my parents listened to so I grew up with musical influences like Keith Green, Sandy Patty, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Mozart and Jewel,” says Rahc El of her musical back ground. “But when I heard Aretha and Marvin, it was over! I was head over heels in love! What was this music and why didn’t I know about it?”

Under the wings of The Infinity Arts Program in Jamestown Rahc El was able to grow and hone her talents during the last two years of high school. After high school it was off to New York City to study the performing arts at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Rahc El began attending a church in Manhattan and met producer “Studio” Steve Wallace. After one studio session it was decided. Skip the demo and go for the album. “He really believed in my music and knew it was something the world needed. The sooner it gets in their hands the better!” So began the process of Steadfast.

Look for Rahc El’s debut album, Steadfast, online at CdBaby.com and iTunes. You can discover more about your new favorite artist on Myspace.com as well as Purevolume.com. With a tour of Vegas,Chicago, Dallas and Austin Texas coming in the fall Rahc El is quickly making her way out of the underground scene and into the sun. Watch out when you’re in New York City's renowned village or uptown in some blue lit jazz lounge, you might just bear witness to and fall in love with the world’s newest soul reviving songbird, Rahc El.
