Album Notes
Poppa Steve Mutimer was a Rock pioneer as a drummer and bandleader with his first band, The Rhythm Kings, from Rockford, IL in 1958. He loved the funk and always had great horn players and keyboardists to compliment the guitars, bass and drums. By the mid ‘60s his band, The Daze & Knights, toured for the William Morris Agency backing their singers and vocal groups like the Four Tops, Bobby Goldsboro, The Chiffons, The Vogues, The Crystals, Jimmy Clanton, Len Barry, Dee Dee Sharp and more. In the mid 1970s Steve continued his musical career as a producer over the next 25 years earning over 100 awards for creative excellence including 3 TV EMMYs. Now into Jazz as a composer, Poppa goes back to the future and draws on his roots in early Rock, R&B and Blues, then wraps it all up in Fusion Jazz. That’s why a lot of people call his music Rockin’ Jazz. Enjoy the funk.
