Album Notes
Drew Nugent arrived in Los Angeles in January, 2016 for the first time not really knowing what to expect. He spent four days in Venice Beach and Downtown LA co-writing with Peter Evans, Shayna Zaid and Cynthia Carle. With Evans as the project curator, they moved as the way opened. Fortunately, there were many openings, moments of growth and discovery, and a purposeful repurposing of music from the swing era of the 1920’s and 1930’s into an exuberant “neo-Swing” for the early 21st Century. Percussionist, Michael Jerome added his magic bonding sauce to the mix during two recording sessions at Votiv Studios with Phil Galloni, newly arrived from Wisconsin, at the controls.

Drew Nugent, spinet piano, Rhodes organ, vocals, trumpet
Shayna Zaid - vocals, ukulele

Laura Evans Durant

bluesy ragtime
Lots of fun to listen to!... and then with repeated listening, the lyrics go deeper. Favorites are : Clockwork, I'm on It and Don't Worry Honey

Exciting new sound
Evans, Zaid and Nugent bring a wonderful new sound born of Nugent's ragtime expertise, Evans' folk sensibilities, and Zaid's sultry style. Is this "Nouvelle Rag"? "Sultry swing"? Or just good music for laughing and living? All three, I say!
