– Mr. Ford’s Soul Explosion, KPOO 89.5FM

THE ALBUM: She Be turns women’s suffering into power. The 11 tracks uncover to the harsh realities of life for a Black woman in American society. Praised as "a talented lead vocalist who creates a powerful mix of poetry and activism” by Bay Area Producer, Jim Greer, Melissa Jones draws upon her own personal battles overcoming sexism, racism, domestic abuse and police violence to illuminate the universal pain of women everywhere.

“Are you gonna fight or are you gonna stand there?” – Stand There

THE BAND: The band exemplifies unity in their diversity – its members come from all races, genders and sexual orientations. The purpose of their music is to heal, inspire, and bring all people together. Called “one of the best bands in the Bay Area” by KPOO’s Mr. Ford’s Soul Explosion Show, No Lovely Thing is a seven piece band from Oakland, CA. Led by singer Melissa Jones’ percussive melodies and political voice, the band weaves elements of funk, blues, jazz, and reggae into their modern soul sound. They have recently shared stages with Trombone Shorty, The Soul Rebels and Royal Jelly Jive.

“You matter, you matter to me.” - Hey Brother
