The beautiful singer, Nicole Henry, has won praise from both critics and audiences since her first moment in the spotlight. It’s no wonder Nicole has released three TOP 10-selling CDs in the last four years and toured internationally and throughout the United States. For two years after graduating college, Nicole performed around Miami, winning local awards singing original songs and pop covers. Then in 2002, Nicole fell in love with the freedom, melodies and lyrics of jazz. By 2004, she released her debut jazz CD, The Nearness of You, to critical acclaim. HMV Japan named Nicole “Best New Jazz Artist” for 2004 and the CD climbed to #2 on HMV Japan charts, staying in the top 10 for three months. In the U.S., Nicole received rave reviews and was featured on national jazz radio, including Sirius and XM Satellite Radio. Billboard wrote that “Henry is a jazz vocalist poised on the cusp of bigger things,” and indeed she continues to be. Her follow-up CD, Teach Me Tonight with the Eddie Higgins Trio, on Japan’s Venus Records, reached #1 at HMV, and again earned her honors, with HMV Japan naming it the “Best Vocal Jazz Album” of 2005.

Now, Nicole’s newest CD release, The Very Thought of You reached #7 on the U.S. Billboard Jazz Chart. This romantic CD features love songs, originals and gems from the great American Songbook. It was produced by music veteran Hal Batt (Regina Belle, Jean Carne, Julio Iglesias) with an assist from Executive Creative Producer Don Mizell (co-producer of Ray Charles’ Genius Loves company). Jazz Improv writes, “…beautiful, emotionally evocative…a terrific voice and a sensitive way with a lyric.” It’s with that same sensitivity and genuine, heartfelt delivery that Nicole Henry mesmerizes audiences wherever she goes. Nicole Henry’s voice is uplifting and captivating. She proves she is one of the finest vocalists to emerge this decade and ready to be discovered by wider audiences everywhere.

A very special vocalist
Great Vocalist, great voice, an high class artist, that in every song and each note capture the audience and share her own emotions. A very special new singer

Unfortunately, most singers approach the great American songbook like a museum piece. NOT Nicole Henry! She is wise, sophisticated, and soulful enough to know that these tunes (both the old classics and some newer compositions that take their queues from Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, etc.) are just empty houses. It is the job of the singer and musicians to fill them with life, breath, character, memories, and maybe even a little grit and grime for good measure. And these recordings are certainly not purist recreations, either. With a voice that could easily grace chart-topping R&B and pop songs, Nicole throws caution to the wind, knowing that authenticity comes from pairing a great performance with a great song. So many other so-called jazz vocalists, the staid sopranos and husky-toned cabaret singers, are just going through the motions.

Now that I own the entire catalog, including the 12"s...and having seen her live...and always looking forward to the next time. I can only say...that from Now On...when anyone speaks of, or lists the names of any of the great female vocal artists....like Sarah Vaughn, Betty Carter, Ella, Nancy Wilson...that they will now and forever, have to include Nicole Henry in that list. She brings new life to standards, old and new, as her phasing, her breathing, her choice of notes make this music timeless and at the same time feel new again. Her spirit shines and never fails to fly off the stage and into our hearts. Thank you Nicole...You make me want to dance.

Classy, Radiant, Alluring
These great songs were approached with the love and care and tenderness they deserve. Nicole continues to breath life into old classics and into the Jazz genre itself with a beautiful voice and the skills to control it subtly and perfectly. All The Way and The Very Thought of You are sung with such grace and emotion that you can see yourself crying...immersed in the lyrics as the writer intended, and Nicole delivers superbly. We are so fortunate that Nicole found jazz and we found her.

A true beauty in every way! Nicole Henry is that fresh new voice everyone must experience. She mesmerizes her audiences, uplifts you with her soulful sophistication, and sings each song with grace and beauty. A jazz vocalist bigger than life that can deliver with such class. "The Very Thought of You" is so romantic and is executed with Nicole's own touch; simply the best!

The Very Thought of You
The review by Chrisr above is right on. Nicole has a natural musicality that creates these cool surprises - note choices that are different than anyone else's, more emotion here, soulful lines there, always something intriguing, which is what jazz is, at its best. I always look forward to hearing how Nicole sings a tune. A fabulous CD that is an inspiration to me, as a singer, in interpreting the Great American Songbook.
