Nekro G "Real Raw Rap" REVIEW
Nekro G “Real Raw Rap”
Grim Reality Entertainment. 2011.

Disclaimer: Let me start by letting all of you guys know that I do not claim to be an artist/musician in any way, so if my lingo or terminology is incorrect, I apologize in advance. I am reviewing this as a fan, and a fan ONLY. Now, onto the dopeness…

1) Real Raw Rap
This is a great opening track for this EP; the beat is a banger by JP, as usual, and it fits Nekro’s flows perfectly. Everything, from the verses to the chorus, was on point for this one and it definitely sets the mood for the rest of the record.

2) Watchout
Another dope track that mixes the ‘gangsta-style’ wicked rhymes of Nekro G and the funk of JP’s production style(s). Good follow up track to the intro, Real Raw Rap. Watchout ‘cause Nekro’s comin’ for you…

3) Do This Thang
This is the party track of the record. Another classic beat by the Hustler, himself, compliments Nekro’s lyrical theme perfectly and the duo show that they can go from hardcore ‘real raw rap’ to straight up party shit!

4) Hard (feat. VD)
This is one of my favorites off of the record, for sure. I enjoyed the chorus and the styles of both MCs really work well together. It was nice to hear a track featuring another one of GRE’s newest acquisitions, VD!

5) Dogg (feat. JP Tha Hustler)
I thought this track was pretty good, but found the chorus to be somewhat annoying, for lack of a better term. I think the verses by both Nekro and JP were on point, but I could have done with a different hook, for sure.

6) West Coast Rollin’ (feat. Slyzwicked)
Another funky-ass beat by JP helps to set the mood for this more laid back track. I never heard Slyzwicked before this, but I was impressed by his style and delivery. He had a smoother flow than Nekro’s grimy style, but they work well together. I wouldn’t mind hearing more from these two in the future!

7) Do This Thang (Radio Edit)
See track 3 review, above.

The debut release by one of Grim Reality Entertainment’s newest acts proves to be a dope addition to anyone’s CD collection. Whether you are a fan of underground hip hop, horrorcore wicked shit, or straight up West-Coast funk, this CD is for you. With standout tracks like ‘Real Raw Rap’ and ‘Hard,’ I am definitely looking forward to what else Nekro G has in store for his future releases with this label. While I didn’t love the hook on ‘Dogg,’ I really do not have any other complaints about my listen through.

When I first heard the name ‘Nekro G,’ I wasn’t sure if he’d fit with the other acts that we’ve seen on Grim Reality Entertainment’s roster in the past. After hearing this EP, my mind is at ease and I know that he fits perfectly with JP, VD, and the rest of the team. I have high hopes for the next few releases on GRE and I’m sure I won’t be disappointed!
