Album Notes

The band Monkey Business began in 2000 and immediately after publishing their first record quickly became an overnight sensation. After that, all four records of this great funky band from Prague opened to enthusiastic reviews and sold out concert tours. Anything less would be considered a failure, as bandleader and producer Roman Holy was not satisfied with having the best Prague funkateers joining his new outfit. Instead, he invited funk legend Fred Wesley to add some old school funk flavour.
Fred Wesley, best known for his time as James Brown’ s band leader and author of several hit records, including Pass the Peas and Houseparty, worked with Monkey Business on their first two albums, writing the horn section arrangements and leading the section in the studio. Another notable guest was David Williams, a regular of Michael Jackson and Madonna records.
MB´s albums offer tracks with 99% English lyrics, tackling matters ranging from career choices to the creation of the universe. All records were published on the Sony Music Columbia label.

WHY BE IN WHEN YOU COULD BE OUT (2000) The video for the second single Piece Of My Life was nominated in the Czech Music Awards 2000 where Monkey Business also won in two other categories: BEST BAND and BEST NEW ARTIST. The album went platinum. The band grew with the arrival of “black magic woman” - fantastic American singer Tonya Graves. With this line-up Monkey Business started to record their second album.

SAVE THE ROBOTS (2001) As usual, there were many exciting guests involved. Guitarist Hiram Bullock (Paul Simon, Chaka Khan, Sting, James Brown, Miles Davis, Eric Clapton), Dr. Robert leader of the cult band The Blow Monkeys, Fred Wesley and P-funk singer Ray Davies. The best part of the recording was definitely cooperation with 71 members of the Czech National Symphonic Orchestra conducted by famous Czech composer Mario Klemens. This album went Gold almost immediately.

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE (2003) Keeping in line with fruitful tradition many interesting participants were again involved and 4 nominations for the Czech Music Awards – BEST BAND, BEST POP ALBUM, BEST ALBUM COVER, BEST VIDEO were without a shadow of a doubt the mark of unfailing enthusiasm and musical talent of the band.

LAZY YOUTH OLD BEGGARS - 4 DVD! (2004) Received a Czech Music Award 2004 for THE BEST DVD.

KISS ME ON MY EGO (2005) The album was released with more dream guests on board: Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) on two tracks, one of the world´s top sax players David Sanborn and again Hiram Bullock because, as you know, “criminals always return to the scene of crime” .
This album received a Czech Music Award 2005 for BEST ALBUM.

was released in connection with the biggest Monkey tour ever: sponsored by Nokia, they created a huge stage show and played most of the big stadium venues in Czech Republic. It did not hurt that lead singer Matthew just received Czech Music Academy Award as the Best Singer of 2006.
The succesfull show was also recorded by HBO as a concert movie and released in December 2007 on DVD.

MONKEY BUSINESS are: Matthew Ruppert (vocal), Tonya Graves (vocal), Roman Holy (keyboards), Andrew Brousek (keyboards), Pavel Mrazek (bass), Marten Houdek (drums) and Olda Krejčoves (guitar).
