Album Notes
Gary Hill of The Music Street Journal says; "In The Turning, Potter has produced a nearly perfect album. Fans of folk music should love the disc, but it can appeal to a wider range of people, too. It calls up emotions and feelings that should prove universal."

In a review by Dr. Matthew Warnock, Editor in Chief, Guitar International Magazine, Matthew says, "The Turning is a strong release by Potter, and one that fits firmly into the Folk-Americana genre, while standing on it's own two feet at the same time, mostly due to the songwriter's penchant for coming up with the right melody line and harmonic progression for the right moment. As well, Potter's understanding of the relationship between the acoustic guitar and the human voice is a joy to listen to as the two instruments intertwine on each track on the album."

Heath Andrews says, "From the very first song, Potter’s work is instantly identifiable as the kind of folk/singer-songwriter style that’s akin to the music of James Taylor or Gordon Lightfoot. These two musicians make for a particularly apt comparison as Potter’s music and voice lean towards the former, while his lyrics steer towards the latter."

Mike Potter is a singer/songwriter based in the Pacific Northwest and a graduate of the Berklee School of Music. His debut CD of all original songs is done in the classic singer/songwriter style with lyrics that tell of life and love. His passion for acoustic guitar is evident in the beautiful arrangements of both finger-style and flat-picked songs. The Turning is a high-quality recording with a sound that is clean and pure. This CD was co-produced by Boston great Crit Harmon, and features Richard Gates on bass, Steve Sadler on a variety of acoustic lead instruments, and Linda Quon on harmony vocals.

Consistently Strong Debut
A very strong collection of well crafted songs, beautifully played. The guitar is right on target throughout, and the lyrics consistently witty and memorable. Several songs (Paddy's Without Paul" and "Old Soldier" especially) are reminiscent of Mark Knopfler tunes in their depth, warmth and simplicity. Tunes range from toe-tapping to tear-jerking, and much in between. Potter also recently produced the debut CD of The Quons, a Central Oregon duo. If you like this recording, try that one as well.
