ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Michael “Mez” Dilauro comes by love of roots music honestly, coming as he does from a highly musical family in Peterborough, Ontario. His grandfather played fiddle and mandolin, and an aunt was an accomplished jazz pianist. This led to many family holiday post-dinner jam sessions of folk and country standards.

As is sometimes the Canadian case, early dreams of hockey stardom were soon replaced by an obsession with rock n’ roll and Mez moved to Ottawa, bought a bass guitar, and two weeks later formed a rock band, Beautiful 2000. The band was on the scene for 10 years, gathering its share of interest and acclaim; at the same time, Mez had been figuring out the intricacies of sound production and engineering, leading to the foundation of a recording studio, South River Sound in Toronto, with his business partner, Shawn Delnick. In addition to recording many clients and playing with such local bands as How I Won the War and Uniter, Mez has spent several years writing a suite of songs inspired by his love for country music and gritty rock n’ roll.

The album Spaghetti Western is a freewheeling mixture of traditional country styles, British guitar-rock influences with a touch of vintage psychedelia, delicate folksongs, and bluesy guitar explosions, anchored by a literate lyrical touch and meaningful, heartfelt themes. Many musical friends from Mez’s past and present contributed their distinct talents and energies to an album of uncompromising poetic and sonic integrity.
