Her favorite songs have been haunting me lately and I feel it's only appropriate to cover one of them. She once told me this song was the one she would resort to whenever she felt sad because she had to say goodbye to one of her sons at the airport. So now I'm using it to say goodbye to her, in a proper way. I hope I have made you proud mother.

I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail
Yes, I would
If I could
I surely would

I'd rather be a hammer than a nail
Yes, I would
If I only could
I surely would

Away, I'd rather sail away
Like a swan that's here and gone
A man gets tied up to the ground
He gives the world its saddest sound
It's saddest sound

I'd rather be a forest than a street
Yes, I would
If I could
I surely would

I'd rather feel the earth beneath my feet
Yes, I would
If I only could
I surely would

Martin Del Carpio is a talented singer and songwriter with a passion for earnest melodies and personal lyrics. In addition to writing his own beautiful music, Martin also covers a few tracks from time to time. Recently, he released a beautiful cover of “El Condor Pasa (If I Could”).

The original version of this song was originally released back in 1970 by the folk duo Simon and Garfunkel. Martin’s version stays somewhat true to the original when it comes to maintaining the melodies and the arrangements, but this talented artist was able to imprint his character on this beautiful song. Some of the best covers are not actually verbatim renditions of tracks, but versions that have a personal connection with the performer. In this particular case, it seems that Martin definitely connected with the lyrics of this track on a deeper level, because he utters the lyrics just as passionately as the original performance, meaning that he can relate to the music in a stunning way.

The result is a track that feels authentic, and you will certainly enjoy it, whether you know the original version of the song or not!
