ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Recorded live in the Cathedral, we offer this collection of sacred music on organ and grand piano as you would hear it if you were there - bathed in the jeweled light from the historic French stained glass windows or kneeling at the altar of America's oldest statue of the Virgin Mary, surrounded by the fragrance of incense and candle wax. Our selections are typical of the music we perform for mass and high holy days, a combination of sacred classical works, contemporary liturgical music and traditional Spanish hymns.

Like the familiar voice of a beloved friend, the bells ring daily from the Cathedral towers above beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico. One of America's most historic congregations, the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi was established in 1610 by Spanish colonists and Franciscan priests. Cathedral status was granted 150 years ago as it continued to be a stronghold for establishing Catholicism in the Southwest. In 2005 Pope Benedict XVI elevated the church to the level of Cathedral Basilica in recognition of its great historical, artistic and religious significance. The landmark Cathedral is truly the symbol of the 'City of Holy Faith' and faithfully serves as its spiritual and cultural heartbeat.

As Assistant Director of Music and Principal Organist/Pianist at the Cathedral Basilica since September 2003, PATRICK RAILSBACK brings a strong background in church music and experience to Santa Fe. Piano lessons began at age 8 in his home state of Colorado and by the age of 12, he was playing organ in church. In addition to earning a Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting, his musical career includes positions around the country as organist/choirmaster and performances with musical and dinner theater productions. His successful piano duo, Cukros-Railsback, was featured with Pinchas Zuckerman at the 25fh Anniversary of the Alex de Vries Music Foundation in Antwerp, Belgium.

LINDA McDILL enjoys a career as a professional musician. Her piano entertainment resume includes long-term engagements as featured pianist in hotels, restaurants and resorts around the US and internationally, including Japan, France and Italy. An intense interest in music and piano began at an early age. From junior high school through college, she played organ and piano as soloist and choral accompanist in a variety of churches in Texas and California. Blending a degree in music, many years of performing and music business experience as agent, manager and producer, Linda performs in the Santa Fe area and as staff organist/pianist at St. Francis Cathedral.
