Album Notes
"Arguably the most charismatic female performer in rock".... Robert Hilburn 'Los Angeles Times'

Free of any obligations except to the music itself - Martha Davis returned to the studio in the fall of 2003 to record her first new album in 15 years.

Davis had written 100s of unreleased songs over the years and certainly could have recorded many albums but the time just wasn't right until the fall of 2003. The right songs, a talented band, a shared vision, combined with unstoppable momentum - every thing came together at once.

The time was right, Davis has written and produced an album that is moody and eclectic as well as poignant and beautiful. With the release of "...So the Story Goes, " Martha Davis has delivered a landmark album -- brimming with dark and delicious stories about love, life and loss - unique in perspective and universal in appeal.

For Davis -- the most important thing has always been the songs that she writes. "Songs are my way of processing information and dealing with emotions. Songs are a way of sharing my experiences." Davis' songs were at the heart of The Motels success - deep and disquieting tales about life's quirky underbelly. Stories told from a singular perspective - the mind's eye of Martha Davis. "I am a different woman than I was 15 years ago, and it's a different world but a song's job is still the same -- to communicate honestly and artistically in the hopes of moving somebody emotionally." "...So the Story Goes" raises the standards for the art of storytelling - leaving no emotional stone unturned -- it's a "sweet, sad, pathetic, mean, hopeful, scary album that you can dance to."

"...So the Story Goes" gives real meaning to the expression "alternative music" with a wealth of songs that cannot be explained by one musical style or contained by a single genre. Compelling, cinematic and surreal songs - filled with an exceptional variety of colors and textures - so gripping that nothing can compete with their compelling lyrics and unforgettably melodies - except, of course - Davis' incredible voice.

Great to hear new material!
Stark, strong, and unflinchingly honest, this CD gives the listener a glimpse of Martha Davis' viewpoint on life and love. It's a viewpoint that isn't at all optimistic, but in the end, what can you do? To live and love is why we're here.

honesty, talented and touching my soul
The most wonderful heart warming, soul touching music you can find. I love it from beginning to end and over again.

Finally, a wonderful new CD from Martha Davis.
"So The Story Goes" is an album I've been waiting for many years to hear. Songs like Sweet Love and Crazy harken back to the raw rock days of the Motels 1979 debut album; and while Martha Davis has performed the songs Torture Me, Angel and True Love on stage they had never been burned onto disk... until now! Every time I saw them in concert I hoped that one day a new album would be made. It finally has, and it ROCKS!

...So The Story Goes is a long awaited and thoroughly satisfying work from an artist who has been one of my favorites from the gitgo. The words and the music are classic Martha Davis but with a maturity and wisdom that fits the current time. If you liked her work with the Motels and on Policy you will not be disappointed and may even play the bits and bytes off this disc. Way to go Martha and keep it coming.

Martha is a brilliant writer and wow ...that voice.
Many times when an artist is out of the music scene for a while and return, you hear something missing. Not here with Martha's new CD. Her writing has not wained a bit, and her voice is as powerful as ever. Thank you for this album. It was a long time in wait for this fan

New Motels music at last!
For anyone who found the Motels in the eighties to be the antidote to the popular music of that decade, this CD will certainly emind them why they felt that way. Martha Davis has produced an exceptional CD with all the dark & quircky lyrics of the Motels at their best. I just hope she doesn't wait another 20 years to do another. Thank you, Martha.

Keith from Georgia!

Let's not wait this long again!!!!!!
"...So The Story Goes" is the answer to my dreams - a new CD from Martha!!!! She's in fine form, you can tell from the first notes. My favorite cut is "True Love", but it tends to change daily. I'm ready for more right now!!!!
