ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Family, friends, and fun. This is the theme and most certainly the message for Markus Pearson’s debut Album One of a Kind. With a young voice, fresh talent, and a loyal grassroots following, Pearson’s music makes an authentic contribution to any listener’s iPod or stereo.

Pearson was raised in Conway, Arkansas. “Growing up” says Pearson, “there was always music in the house. My mom sang and played the piano for church and my dad was always playing on one of his guitars. He’d play music from every genre, from Aerosmith to Kenny Chesney and Sheryl Crow to Bob Welch. My sister sings as well. One of my earliest memories is of me playing Dwight Yoakam’s Fast as You when I was three on a plastic guitar. My dad showed me my first guitar chords when I was little and I started taking lessons when I was ten.”

Any passionate musician will tell you - a real artist wants to connect with their audience. “I’ve never been a good public speaker or at telling people how I feel. But when I perform, I feel like I can be honest with people and they’re better able to get what I’m trying to say.” Pearson looks forward to begin performing at the local venues around Arkansas and interacting with his fans. When asked what he hopes his fans get out of his music, Pearson responds, “I just want people to have a good time. I hope they get something encouraging and positive out of it.”

But music isn’t everything to Pearson. The outdoors and running are other passions of his. He back-packs as often as he can with family and friends, and he loves fishing. Exercising and fitness is another priority of Pearson’s. He’s been running competitively for as long he’s played the guitar. Pearson is currently attending the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on a track scholarship. Over the years of Pearson’s running career, he has helped lead his team to win two conference championships. In his own words, “I can’t describe how incredible being outdoors and running is to me. Two of my favorite feelings are when I catch a fish, and cross a finish line knowing I gave a race my all. They’re both indescribable.”

Many of Pearson’s song are inspired from events and experiences from his own life. For example, the song on his album entitled Poverty is about a day where he went to the grocery store and didn’t have enough money to pay for his food. Emma, a favorite of Pearson’s on the album, is about his secret crush on actress Emma Watson. “I like to write songs about things that people can relate with because that’s the kind of music I enjoy listening to. It’s nice to know that others have gone through something you have. So I hope people can get something like that out of my music.”

With a smooth blend of acoustic rhythm, folk, and alternative rock combined with Pearson’s relatable lyrics and song writing, One of a Kind is sure to live up to it’s name.
