Album Notes
Lucinda Black Bear is led by Christian Gibbs, with Mike Cohen on bass, Kristin Mueller on drums and Chad Hammer on cello. On many occasions, you will find LBB augmented by Gillian Rivers on violin, who has been responsible for string arrangements for bands such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and MGMT. Sometimes soft, sometimes hard, Lucinda Black Bear has many moods, but you can always count on true craftsmanship in songs and performance.

The band was conceived when Gibbs decided he needed new blood and new instrumentation on his piano-guitar based, loop laden songs. He sought out a downtown supergroup of talented musicians from whom he had heard great things about. With Mike, Kristin and Chad, indie-folk met chamber rock, and Lucinda Black Bear was born.

'Top 10 Great Unknown Artists of 2007'- 4... "Lucinda Black Bear... plays carefully written folk-rock with stunning arrangements... they paint lonely, deserted images with dark minor chords and complex melodies." - NPR

"the striking, melancholy tunes on Lucinda Black Bear's new disc, Capo my Heart, could push (the band) over the top." - Time Out New York

"The band's soaring and lushly arranged songs weave together myriad strains of American music, old and new," - The Brooklyn Rail

Fantastic Once Again
I thought they had hit a home run with "capo", but there was nothing to prepare me for this new album. Kudos to the guys and gals in the band. I feel we are just moments away from them becoming really big.

The needle in the haystack
Lucinda Black Bear is a band that brings more than just catchy songs to the music world. They create images and tell stories with incredible musicianship and maturity that demands to be heard over and over again. 'Knives' is sonically varied and layered. Each track emotes and captures attention in unique ways. My personal favourites are Up On The Mend and Hand Bible, but you would be hard-pressed to not love this album from beginning to end.
The more you listen to the album to more nuisances and beauty you find in it. BUY IT, PLAY IT OFTEN, AND PLAY IT LOUD! The music world NEEDS more bands like Lucinda Black Bear.

He Was Right--It is a classic!
So, my partner said this album was amazing, so I got my own copy--yes, i've been blown away. talk about how great it is to have classical trained musicians doing pop music. if only other stars could be half as good.

The Secret is Out!
This jewel of a band is clearly going places! The album is's's's striking -- a musical array that is pleasing to the senses. With each track having its own unique creativity, its hard to pick a favorite. Get this album -- listen to it over and over -- and TURN IT UP!
