ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In the wake of last year’s critically acclaimed Walked All The Way Back Home The Little Brothers (Frankie, Kim and Mike) return with yet another eclectic mix of blues, string and jug band material. Regrettably space does not allow for detailed discussion of songs but for this CD their repertoire has been drawn from such diverse sources. For example, the obscure Sweet Papa Stovepipe (Mama’s Angel Child), the renowned Sleepy John Estes, (Black Mattie), the sadly overlooked Ma Rainey (Farewell Daddy) and an instrumental from the almost totally forgotten, Leake County Revelers (Leake County Blues).

However theirs is by no means slavish copying and it is refreshing to hear such recognizable material performed so intuitively by such a complete, cohesive trio. This release, unlike the previous, now features on three numbers the vocals of fiddle player Kim Basile, adding yet another dimension to the group. Her commanding delivery of Ma Rainey’s Farewell Daddy, is a revelation, and suitably accompanied by Frankie’s powerful guitar accompaniment.

The Little Brothers have been performing for several years and although they maintain a healthy musical presence on the internet, national and international tours seem to have eluded them. Hopefully the release of this CD that will finally bring the talents of The Little Brothers to a wider audience. Surely it won’t be long now before they are booked for Blues Estafette (Belgium), Europe’s largest blues event which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The Little Brothers perform “my kinda music”.

Excellent acoustic blues
This new CD could have been recorded - as the CD cover suggests - on the Bluesvill label during the 60's. The Little Brothers have by the way also a sister, Kim Basile, who is the strongest element here, either when she sings or when she plays a mean lowdown fiddle. But the two others are also very good. Blues and folk revival of course but with a true understanding of the downhome foundations of the genres.
