Album Notes
Thank you for listening to my song, “The Cowabunga”. As you listen to the song and dance to its rhythm, it is my deepest hope that you become part of the communal experience that I sought to create when I wrote the song. You see, water is of course indispensable to life. This song is a celebration of water. The song is therefore, everywhere and always, a celebration of life itself. It is a celebration of the life that binds us together. It is a celebration of the life that we all share on this small planet called earth, at this small moment in time. It is my hope that my song can teach us about what we have in common and bring us all one step closer to one another. Ah, it’s not such a fantasy after all to hope that future generations looking back will say: remember the summer of 2019? Remember that song “The Cowabunga”? That was their rain dance. That was a song by which humanity came one step closer to understanding that we are all in this together. We all just want to be happy and celebrate life. As you look at the music video on You Tube, please understand that that is what is going on: it’s just a video of a dad and his daughters in their house, having fun. We had intended to make a short tutorial video on how to dance the Cowabunga. However, our amazing videographer, Havar Espedal, showed up, heard the song, and told us that we simply had to shoot a music video. So we did! Spontaneously! The girls and I make mistakes in the video because that is the spontaneity of life, so I decided to release the video on You Tube, mistakes and all. Also, you should know that the Cowabunga line dance is done only during the choruses of the song. In between the choruses, it’s your opportunity to freestyle and dance to the rhythm. Enjoy!
