Uzore, Uzore!

by Leslie Russell Saunders

This song, “Uzore, Uzore!” is an antiphonal Field Song of the Isoko Peoples of Nigeria. This arrangement was inspired by a field-recording I made while researching endangered folk songs there. “Uzore, Uzore!” means, ‘Don’t Bother Me, I’m Busy!”

Album Notes
This ensemble arrangement of "Uzore, Uzore!," was inspired by an field-recording that I made while collecting endangered folk songs in Nigeria & Ghana, West Africa. This is a field-song of the Isoko Peoples of Nigeria.

Typically this song is sung antiphonally, (call & response) between the males & females working in the field. "Uzore, Uzore!" means, "Don't Bother me, I'm Busy!"
