Still Going On Strong
'Songs For The Siren' may be a different record for its creator, David Knopfler, but repeated listens will prove that the album is a very strong record. Forget about the simplicity and acoustic instrumentation of 'The Giver' and 'Wishbones' or even the laid-down 'Ship of Dreams'.
Songs here are shorter and the tighter production (Coproduced by Ex-Rainbow's member Tony Carey) allows less instumental liberty. Apart from the production, DK's voice and lyrical perfection have reached a new summit. Just listen to 'Drowning Pool' and 'Razor Moon' (Both being the album's stand-out tracks) and you will see what I mean. The latter boasts a hauntingly beautiful sax part. Other stand-out tracks include: 'Steel Wheels', 'Fire Down Below', 'Washing Horses in Eden' & the catchy 'Somebody Kind'. The album may fall short in comparison to the previous records, 'Ship Of Dreams' or 'Wishbones' but it's an emotionally honest record and songs are lovely and growing over repeated listens. I'd like to thank David for this record. I just can't get enough from this man. Still Going On Strong...
