ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
From original art work to original songs, Kevin Roth has created new sounds on a variety of dulcimers in this fun, quirky, upbeat and thought provoking new collection of thirteen original songs. Instrumentation includes, dulcimer, percussion, bass, cello, trumpet, and of course Kevin's melodic vocals.
Kevin calls this his California album. "Written and recorded over a year in San Diego, I had a blast making this album. It started out as a four song EP, but grew. I had no plans to make a full- length album, nor go back into touring and the music business, but after the project was completed I said "Wow", this is too much fun, and decided to hit the road again.
I've made close to forty-eight albums and this is my absolute favorite. Some albums have magic. I don't know how that happens, but I knew this one did, and others agreed, so basically I found the joy in my own music that I had lost a few years back which is why I stopped recording and performing. Now I'm thrilled to be back and hearing my audience laugh and celebrate with me in great music and fun."
Most dulcimer music is traditional, folk. Kevin is known for being one of the world's leading innovators of the dulcimer. In this new collection, he emerges once again as quite the 'deviant dulcimerist" This is a must have for all Kevin Roth fans, and one for the collection for new ones!

An album that just feels good to listen to....
The only thing better than listening to this album was playing on this album...which I did. I have been a fan of Kevin's music for many years now, and have had the honor of collaborating with him on a few occasions. When Kevin sent me the demos for these songs, I was most impressed by the the maturity of the writing and the cohesiveness of the album. From song to song, there are many surprises, and that makes it a fun, and memorable listen. I have many favorites on this album. They all speak to me in one form or another. If you like Folk music, Pop Music, Rock Music,...whatever your musical preference, you will love this album. It just feels good to listen to, and in my case, to play along to as well. Great album Kevin!

I don't know Kevin Roth but....
I do know Mitch Schecter :-). He's one heck of a guy and adept at so many instruments. I bought this album because of his involvement in it BUT am totally blown away by the album itself! And then I read that Kevin has another 47 albums I haven't heard? Wow. Talk about an OMG moment!
Fantastic album and really loving it!

Refreshing, Remarkable Album from Kevin
I’ve been following Kevin’s career for as long as I can remember, and when a friend recommended his newest recording, The Deviant Dulcimerist, I couldn’t wait to hear it. It is the most enjoyable album I’ve heard in years - Kevin’s songs are fun, innovative and clever - and his vocals are an unadulterated pleasure. The album starts out with a love song called “Crazy Love” and I particularly love the line “angels show up in unusual ways.” Two more of my unequivocal favorites are “The Incredible Lightness of Being” and “The Holidaze Turkey Tune.” Kevin smoothly transitions his storytelling and music from the more reflective piece about taking chances in life to a sidesplitting song about a holiday turkey – it takes a master storyteller to smoothly accomplish this! The Deviant Dulcimerist weaves instrumentals, tempos and poetry into this Deviant Masterpiece.

Kevin has always been a dulcimer Master, but this album shows the growth and depth of his songwriting abilities. Lyrically clever, he expresses feelings with musical terms. “You said our love could not sustain itself / you were happy being solo, playing free / but your improvisations were so misleading, they modulated everything in me.” Lyrics from “Deeper Than Blue.”

This is an album that speaks to me every time I listen to it. It is always fresh and filled with joyous moments that lift the heart. You will listen to it over and over again.
