ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“Ken Newman rocks an articulate and driving style of Americana music with a big sound that hooks hearts and moves emotions. Passionate, bitter sweet, and powerful, each song casts it’s own spell. Ken’s lyrics are smart and lasting, his guitar work is rock solid, and his hooks are infectious. Think, Leonard Cohen meets Bruce Springsteen."

I asked a friend to describe my music and that's what he came up with ... I like to think it's a fair assessment. At least, it does represent some strong influences. I've been affected by a lot of artists over the years, the two already mentioned, plus Tom Petty, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, The Ramones, Cheap Trick ... and on and on and on.

What can I tell you, I LOVE Rock and Roll !!

A little more about me: I am a San Francisco-based Singer/Songwriter. In addition to performing with my band, Berkeley Bronx, I regularly do solo acoustic shows throughout the City. I will also be releasing my first album of original music, “Dreaming of Guns.” It is produced by Scott Mickelson and if the stars align, should be released in early 2020.

For the past six years, all my earnings from music have been donated to a variety of homeless charities; specifically, Compass Family Services and Larkin St. Youth Services in San Francisco. Two years ago, I started my own charity called "Blanket The Homeless." The original idea came from a friend, Bronica Blue who suggested that distributing emergency blankets to the homeless might help them cope with a particularly cold winter. We have since expanded our ‘care packages’ to include socks, gloves, hats, first aid kits, nutrition bars as well as a “Resource Guide” of free food, shelter and other services in San Francisco. Since October of 2016, we have distributed over 5,000 of these packages to our friends and neighbors living on the streets.

Finally, I will be one of 15 artists featured on a double record Compilation called, “Blanket The Homeless.” My producer, Scott Mickelson in addition to contributing a track and producing this LP, has assembled all the talent, each of whom donated a track to this project. The artists are:

Fantastic Negrito
Brothers Comatose
Whiskerman
John Craigie
Con Brio
Scott Mickelson
Marty O’Reilly
Rainbow Girls
The Stone Foxes
Goodnight Texas
Ken Newman
King Dream
Tobias The Owl
Coffis Brothers
Tim Bluhm

This album is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2019 ….
