Album Notes
Kailua Moon is a romance between traditional Hawaiian Music and modern pop and Americana. Formed in 2016 by Hawaii-born slack key guitarist Danny Carvalho and Nani Edgar, a young kumu hula and singer-songwriter from Ventura, California.

Growing up in a musical family, Nani spend much of her childhood studying hula and touring the continental US, Japan, and Australia with 6 time Grammy award winner Daniel Ho. She released her debut album East of Maui in 2012, and has performed as a hula dancer for various Hawaiian artists including George Kahumoku, Kimo West, Dennis Kamakahi. She was also a finalist for Kohls' Frozen commercial, and her music has been featured in 2011’s blockbuster Soul Surfer and 2017’s independent movie Kuleana by Brian Kohne.

Danny Carvalho was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii. His parents, students of the legendary Raymond Kane, introduced him to slack key guitar at an early age. He became the first slack key player to be featured on NPR’s show for young classical musicians From The Top. After several years of learning from Slack Key Master Ozzie Kotani, he released his first album at age 16 in 2006. Since then, he has released 2 more albums, been nominated for one Grammy and three Na Hoku Hanohano awards, and appeared twice on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, and has had music featured in Alexander Payne’s 2011 Blockbuster The Descendants and 2015 independent film 1000 Hands of the Guru: Saving Bhutan’s Sacred Arts by Tobias Reeuwijk.

Together, Kailua Moon has toured across the United States sharing Hawaiian music and culture. They are currently preparing to release their debut album, a mix of Hawaiian classics and original compositions.
