Over Oceans

by Josh Garrels

Downtempo and contemplative, this album travels through the depths of loss to heights of hope and healing. A mixture of gentle folk ("Songbird" & "Fire by Night"), to abstracted hip hop ("SISU" & "Sweet River Roll"), with everything else in between

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"As much as most of us might want to avoid feelings of paralyzing helplessness and vulnerability, there's still something intoxicating and dangerously appealing about drinking from those inebriating vials through music. And for those moments when it\'s us singing our own melancholic folk song, hanging our head and feeling the weight of the world on the heart, Over Oceans is one of those albums to get us through it, to let us feel "heard," an assuaging balm made from the very ingredients of generic, human heartbreak. With echoes of Ben Harper, Digable Planets and Sufjan Stevens, Josh Garrels captures a thick yet efficiently-constructed, understated style that fluidly encompasses not only lo-fi bred, beautifully-dreary folk but threads of hip hop and electronic phraseology. As you wander the deserted, dusty old roads with night falling over your heart, Josh is the man to turn to and this is the album that will let you "go there," giving you a nudge now and then to keep you from sinking too far." -Tamara Turner

Wow, I mean really, WOW!
This album is huge. The blending of acoustic and hip hop together is epic. Josh has one of the most expressive voices in the business and his range is unmatched. That was always my biggest problems with acts like Jack Johnson and even Joe Purdy at times, no matter how different there songs were from one another the vocals seemed the same, not so with Josh, i mean an acoustic singer doing Hip-Hop, and better then most rappers even. This album deserves to be heard by everyone everywhere.

Fresh breath of panoramic ocean coasts as the sun sets and rises.
Engineered with intelligence, the album is a full course meal. It gives satisfation and sustenance while a refining element gives the soul strength and the spirit access.
