Jonny also loves to teach students how to play the piano. He creates video piano tutorials for all playing levels and offers sheet music through his website, PianoWithJonny.com.

Jonny comes from a family of eight children, and he has a huge extended family of professional musicians. His father was an entertainment attorney and professional jazz bassist, and his mother is an actress and songwriter. Jonny's grandfather, the late Walter May, was the chairman of music of several universities and composed many large works for the South Dakota Symphony, and Jonny's grandmother, Mary Eleanor May, was a Juilliard trained cellist. Jonny's formal music training started at age 4 with classical piano lessons. Around this time, Jonny's father started taking Jonny to his jazz gigs where Jonny would listen to his father play jazz standards for hours. Jonny considers this the beginning of his informal music education in jazz piano. As a teenager, Jonny studied jazz piano with Larry Flahive and ragtime/boogie/blues piano with Disneyland pianist Johnny Hodges. Jonny started gigging at age 16 playing a local venues, and at age 18, he was hired as the youngest pianist ever to work for Disneyland where he played Ragtime Piano at Coca-Cola Corner on Main Street.

Jonny is married to his beautiful wife Crystal, and in his spare time he loves to snowboard, read, invent new piano arrangements, attend his church, and spend time with his friends and family.
