Album Notes
Joaquin Lopez has written and recorded a concept album inspired by the music he turned to for solace during his gay coming of age and coming out experience in 1989. The album, UNIVERSO, is an infectious, unique, and unusual blend of electronic and studio recorded music influenced by 80s and 90s dance and electro-pop sounds and rhythms.

Joaquin Lopez is a Mexican American performing artist and musician from Portland, Oregon who blends music and storytelling. He holds a passion for producing cultural events that honor Latin American heritage and Latino Gay Culture. Most recently, he was the Arts & Culture Manager at Latino Network and, currently, coordinates their UNID@S for Oregon statewide leadership program. He is the first recipient of the Espiritu Award presented by Milagro in 2014 for his contributions as a performer, producer, writer, and volunteer for the theatre. He serves on the board of The Hollywood Theatre and, most recently, was the Mayoral Appointee for Open Signal (2016-2018). He is also the oldest son of the Lopez family who for nineteen years has run La Bonita Mexican restaurant in the Alberta Arts District. Joaquin received his B.F.A. in Theatre Arts from Southern Oregon and he holds a Masters in Counseling from Portland State University.
